Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: Growing up I was immersed in music. My parents played it constantly around the house and I loved listening to CD’s on the long rides to school. When my dad taught me a few chords on guitar at the age of 12, I fell in love with music and the spark began to grow from there! Growing up in Winnipeg MB, the winters were also very harsh which forced me to stay inside and fall in love with writing.
Q: Did you have any formal training, or are you self-taught?
A: I took suzuki piano for a few years when I was 6 years old. This method is “learn by listening/playing by ear”. Other than that, I am self taught!
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences?
A: I’ve always had an eclectic taste in music. From Fleetwood Mac to Post Malone, to emotional oranges/Smooth jazz. For me, the music I listen to has always been very mood dependent.
Q: You have just released your new single,‘TIMEZONE’. Is there a story behind it?
A: This song was inspired by a series of events. Moving to the west coast, The Chaos of long distance relationships, A FaceTime call with my dad while he was in India and we were juggling time zones, and the studio session where the song was born with new friends I had just met from Norway. TIMEZONE is unapologetic, carefree and makes me wanna drive along the ocean with the windows down!
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: An EP is In the works! I have another single coming early June and I cannot wait to share this new EP this fall!
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: I can attribute my sound to being exposed to every genre from a young age. Classical, hard rock, folk, pop. Although my sound is always evolving, this new music feels so right and vibrant… I can’t wait to keep sharing music with fans! This EP is pure pop and will make people wanna dance!
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: I feel grateful that I’m incredibly fulfilled by my musical journey. I have been authentic throughout the entire process and because of this, I’m slowly but surely gaining the fruits of my labour. Music is my ultimate passion and being able to Pursue it as a career full time is a dream.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: For me, writing is always a very spontaneous happening. I’ll journal, write down words, themes, record voice memos and ideas. With these tidbits of information, I will either sit down on my own and use this as inspiration for a song, or I’ll bring those ideas into a session to collaborate with others.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: This career path comes with so much uncertainty. I used to be stressed and unsure as a result, but now- I’ve chosen to few uncertainty as opportunity and that truly excites me!
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: Opening for Lionel Richie at Bud Weiser stage in Toronto 2019. I’ve always been a huge Lionel fan so this was absolutely surreal for me!
