Conversation With Nohland

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A:
I grew up by the beach in Panama, and I found my grandfather’s guitar when I was 8 years old. At this stage I started writing music and learning how to sing and all, As I grew up in Panama we had this radio called ‘Antena 8’ 100.1FM and they would only play songs from the 80’s and 90’s I feel that mix of growing up on that music and to grow up by the beach ‘shaped’ my sound in a way. I feel as I created music I was more oriented towards synthpop and nostalgia

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Nohland”?

A: I plan on playing across the UK and making a move to European shows, especially Paris. Paris is the place where I made a promise to dedicate my life to music and the name Nohland translates to one of Paris neighborhoods. My message is that my songs are my stories, and it’s music about friendship, adulthood, romantic relationships and more

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: I came across this guy called Mk. Gee and it’s so refreshing to hear someone so talented and creative. He explores music and guitar playing to another level. It’s people like him that inspire me to do music and a lot of my music is heavily influenced by Coldplay. They’ve been my favorite band since I got Mylo Xyloto as a birthday present. They are one of the reasons I make music, it simply made me wanna create and do something that is as meaningful as what their music has been to me all this time

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “all my friends.”?

A: So it’s a story about how I constantly felt I wasn’t doing enough and that I was falling behind in life. I was at this party and I realised everyone around me has ‘moved on’ and is now in serious relationships and I just felt out of place. So I started to write how I felt and turned that into the lyrics of ‘all my friends’

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: nostalgic

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “all my friends”?

A: It was actually quite complicated to make, I got to a stage of recording everything over and over again without making progress. Thankfully I got the help of Nick Paul, who helped me in the mix and production of this track, We worked together for months on this one to really achieve the sound I’ve been looking for

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: My message is to live every moment and value the people around you. My goal is to be able to play around the world, connect with people and make music that is meaningful

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: It would definitely be Coldplay and American Football

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Make real connections, and believe in your vision. If you genuinely believe in what you can achieve, I think others will believe in you too and it’s important to make connections because they’ll be the ones who will help you get to where you want to

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Buy tickets for Coldplay’s 2012 show in Paris
