Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: I was born and raised in Montreal to a Slovak mother and African American/Cuban father. My dad passed away when I was 1 so I grew with a close relationship with my mom. She supported my interest in learning guitar when I was 10 years old. Between the ages of 10 and 20 I played mostly electric blue guitar, with minimal singing. I used to do local talent shows and festivals as a solo guitarist in my teens, playing to backing tracks I made myself on my BR1180 Boss recording machine. Slowly I began singing and writing more and more. Eventually moving on to get my Bachelors of Music from Humber College in Toronto.
