Conversation With Lost Foxes

Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?

A: We’re a band from Greenville, SC. We all love music and we thought it would be a good idea to release our work into the world.

Q: And what other artists have you found yourself listening to lately?

A: Recently, we’ve been listening to artists such as Dayglow, WHY NOT, and COIN.

Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences, and why the name ‘Lost Foxes’?

A: Our strongest music influences are probably Twenty-Øne-Pilots and AJR, but we’re starting to form our own sound, separate from theirs. As for the name, we’re just a group of guys who make music, we’re just winging it out here, thus resulting in the band name: “Lost Foxes”

Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Long Ride’. Is there a story behind it?

A: Long Ride was inspired by my friendship with my bandmates and how I couldn’t choose anyone else to be by my side on the journey we’re going through. It’s also about dealing with criticism, responsibility, and loyalty.

Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?

A: Definitely! The next album is in the works right now!

Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?

A: I think a notable part of our music is the lyrics. We try to write lyrics that are real, lyrics that actually mean something. As for our sound, I would describe it as an Alt-Pop sound with some rock influence and some synths.

Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?

A: We weren’t really expecting anything from it. We made some songs and we released them to the public. Obviously, we want to take it further, but this is only our fourth release. Basically, we can’t take things too quickly.

Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?

A: We normally start with a chord progression on piano or guitar, then we record it into our DAW. From there we work out what we want the song to sound like and we start writing lyrics. After we have the lyrics, we record them and build the rest of the song along with the vocals.

Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?

A: The most difficult thing has probably been turning all our ideas into music. We all have a ton of great ideas, but usually, it’s difficult to form them into a song. My notes app is packed with unused ideas, just waiting to be turned into music.

Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?

A: One thing we’re proud of so far is getting our name out into the world. One way we’re doing that is through our website. Other ways are through blogs like this one. Every small thing helps to bring down our anonymity just a little more.
