Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: Growing up i always loved to entertain. I always had a passion for singing and performing in front of people and my parents were extremely supportive of that. I made it clear from a young age that music was something I wanted to do. It started with just practicing “Happy Birthday” for family parties, to me entering into different showcases and talent shows. I always looked up to Alicia Keys and Beyonce rotating their hit singles each year since pre-school. That soon lead into competition shows like Apollo for Kids, Americas Got Talent, America’s Most Talented Kids, and X-Factor. At the age of 11 years old I started recording music in recording studios. That was when i realized only half of what it took to be an artist. Staying up late working on music then going to school the next day feeling like a superstar. At 16 years old i started artist development, and shortly after that i really took a dive into the industry releasing music and starting my solo career releasing music.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Li Scott”?
A: What i’ve learned so far is that marketing is key. Running campaigns and different ads targeting all points of the world to see what they gravitate towards. This will help better understand what people want to hear my music. Actually putting music out is only one piece of the puzzle, pushing it is another.
B: To anyone that is about to discover my music, be open to different genres. Whether it’s R&B/Pop, R&B/Soul, Hip Hop/Rap and even some Afrobeat, it’s all a part of me.
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: In today’s time, not many new artists truly inspire me musically. But I’m drawn towards Missy Elliot’s energy and confidence and Aaliyah’s softness and vulnerability.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Listen.”?
A: “Listen” is about feeling used or misused by someone you were once with, claiming your power and taking it back.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: Edgy
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Listen”?
A: No. With “Listen” i was able to release feelings that i’ve been harboring with many relationships i’ve been in and and never truly spoke on in a song. It was the beginning of me being real with myself and others about the reality of not appreciating what you have until it’s gone.
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: Most things I’ve been reluctant on sharing are my most relatable characteristics. The message in my music right now is self love and empowerment. My goal as an artist is to learn myself as I grow while sharing it with people along the way.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: My dream collaboration would be Bad Bunny, Missy Elliot, Sno Alegra, HER, Timberland, and Swizz Beats.
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: My advice for people interested in pursuing a music career or entering the industry would be to make sure you love it. Don’t get into it for the money, and be prepared to not make a money right away. Perfect your craft and don’t burn bridges but don’t allow yourself to be misused. Stand for something or you will fall for anything.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: If i could go back in time and give my younger self some words of wisdom, it would be to always stay true to yourself and not to cheat on your future with your past.
