Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: Originally I was born in Bristol but moved to London when I was about 4, one thing I do remember whilst growing up is the amount of moving around we did. I lived in west london for quite some time. Then in east london, north london and then to essex for about 5 years. I wouldn’t say it was the best 5 years of my life but it was in Essex where I first started making music. It was after I finished secondary school and went on to study VFX and animation in college, and in one lesson I kinda just stumbled upon this website called soundtrap where you could make music online. I was obsessed and started making music literally every single day.
It’s funny because I was never really interested in music at school. It was always drama and film that I loved. I remember one of the girls from my school was doing music as a GCSE and when she showed me how she would make songs i just thought to myself jesus christ that looks so long. In year 9 I attended drumming lessons though they coincided with my drama classes so I eventually stopped going. I always loved musical instruments during that period though, mostly the drums and piano.
I think what made me want to start producing music might’ve been when I first discovered soundtrap and FL studio, as well as this artist called Gill Chang. I started watching all these youtube tutorials to try and produce music just like him. For a long while, making music was just something I did in my bedroom day and night. I was only 17 at the time I dropped out of college and really had no idea about what I was doing or what I wanted in life. I think what kept me going and wanting a career in music was the idea that I could eventually make great music if I just kept creating.
Q: Did you have any formal training, or are you self-taught?
A: I was teaching myself everything I could for about two years before I joined a music production course my older sister was also attending. I wasn’t too sure about joining at first but feelings aside I did and it was one of the best musical choices I made. I learned a lot.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences?
A: When it comes to producing music, In the very beginning i was really into future bass and other sub genres of EDM. I would listen to the youtube channels cloud kid, Electro Posé, sucide sheep and trap nation a lot and i would just think to myself how do these producers create these mad sounds.
My music taste changed overtime and it was when someone showed me this one song by XXXTENTACION and ski mask called “take a step back.” I just thought damn. I love this sh*t!
Zillakami and scarlxrd were also two other artists I found back in 2017 and liked a lot. I think what I mostly fell in love with their music was their vocals. It’s harsh, it’s raw and has so much energy to it. Listening to them got me listening to more cloud rap, emo rap and a bunch of underground hip hop music. From then I’ve just been discovering more artists ranging from all different types of genres, but they played a big part at the beginning of my musical journey.
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Sick of your shit’. Is there a story behind it?
A: I actually made it back in 2021 and just had it sitting on my computer for a while. Sometimes with the songs I make a story kinda just unfolds itself and it will be based on the way I’m feeling in that moment. At the time I was just fed up with certain people I was chilling with and I didn’t really know what to do so I was like let me just write a song because I can’t be arsed to deal with it right now.
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: Yes definitely! I’m hoping to release an EP in the upcoming weeks.
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: I think that mostly just depends on the song and what kinda vibe i’m trying to go for or what the story was behind it.
A lot of songs that I’ve created, a story can be there just through the instruments and sounds, no words. I did this with one of my singles ‘days before’ there’s a story there if you listen, and it can be up for interpretation. I love creating music where just instruments can tell a story or create strong feelings.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: Whenever I finish a song and put it out there that creates enough satisfaction for me, the process can sometimes be so long and tiring so when it’s finally done I feel good.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: I sometimes start by creating a beat and if I feel it’s something I’m liking the sound of, I’ll start writing some lyrics for it.
Or I’ll think of a feeling, mood or topic I’m going for and just start from there. This method is usually where I create some of my best songs. I mostly think it’s because I have a rough idea or plan already set in place.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: I think the most difficult thing would probably just be dealing with my own mind and how I react to certain things and situations. I feel like everything starts from within and when you’re not true to yourself and your mind is working against you and not for you, everything becomes more difficult than it needs to be.
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: I think doing this interview is something I’m proud of so far. I’ve been reluctant to share my music for a long time but I’m finishing old songs and starting new ones and it’s starting to feel like I’m taking more action nowadays. so that’s something I’m feeling great about as well.
