Conversation With Isaac Butler

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I am a 27-year-old pop singer-songwriter from Dublin Ireland since I was a kid I was surrounded by music my grandfather was in a show band and he actually did a tour of the states. My mom is incredibly musical so I draw a lot of inspiration from the huge amount of music she exposed me to as a kid. In the car she was always blasting the Goo Goo Dolls Alanis Morissette Eminem Amy Winehouse anything really. My dad isn’t very musical ha ha but he’s very encouraging and always have had back. Also was very lucky to have an incredibly supportive music teacher in school he was actually the one to encourage me to write my first song so I think I owe a lot to the people that were in my life in its early stages

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Isaac Butler”?

A: I mean the plan remains the same keep releasing singles that I believe in and that I believe people can relate to. I think in this industry becomes much easier when you believe in what you’re producing and to be perfectly honest it’s only in recent times where I’m really happy with what I’m coming out with early on in my career I was very young and very influenced about what people were telling me to do and what sort of songs I thought people wanted to hear which is a killer for.creativity. People are smart and they can sniff out something that’s manufactured very easily t I’ve come to learn that the magic is in the honesty. The message I have for anybody about to discover my music is you will feel something whether that’s sadness or hope when listening to my songs you’ll feel the emotion that I felt when writing them.

Q: What inspired you to choose Dublin’s Academy for this show?

A: This venue is a bucket list venue for any up and coming Irish act it’s such a cool venue where it’s big enough to feel like a huge show but not too big where it loses to the intimacy. I chose this venue because it’s the next step in my home country and I’m very very excited.

Q: “Heart of Gold” is your new single. Could you share the story behind the song and what inspired its creation?

A: Heart of gold was born out of post breakup sadness I had a little bit of a freak out moment where I thought oh God I’m in my mid 20s I’ve just broken up with somebody who I’ve been with for a decent amount of time am I going to die alone, I had this conversation with my dad and I ranted for maybe 10 minutes and he just sat there nodding his head and sort of smiled and just said you’ll find the one love is never easy and that’s the pre course of the song and it’s the first two lines I had in my head when I sat down to write it.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners

A: ATHEMIC

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Heart Of Gold”?

A: to be honest this is a bit of a boring answer but no I didn’t I always find that the good songs write themselves I probably had this finished in two or three hours I knew I wanted big anthemic vocals and huge guitars so that’s exactly what we did.
