Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: I am originally from Taos, New Mexico but I now live in Santa Cruz, California. My mom surrounded me with music growing up, she would always sing to me and had instruments around. I went to my first concert when I was around 9 years old, it was Paramore and No Doubt and I just remember thinking “I want to do THAT when I grow up”. My love for the art only grew stronger as I grew up!
Q: And what other artists have you found yourself listening to lately?
A: oh gosh, I listen to A LOT of music. I’ve been listening to a lot of Beauty School Dropout, Emei, Roe Kapara, Call Me Karizma, Von Wegen Lisbeth, and Carlie Hanson lately!
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences?
A: Twenty One Pilots, Paramore, Eminem, Tegan and Sara, Nothing But Thieves, Pink!, Sir Sly, Ed Sheeran, and The Cheetah Girls
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Temporary Love’. Is there a story behind it?
A: Temporary Love is a story about love and loss, having something so special it’s worth the risk of loosing. This song is partially based on real life events and partially fiction. I remember watching Gossip Girl as I was writing and playing on the love affair between Chuck and Blair, while also feeding off of my own past experiences.
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: I am currently working on my debut EP, it should be out later this year or early next year, super excited for this one!
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: I don’t even know how to explain my sound to be honest. Every song is a different genre with a different emotion and story, I don’t want my music to be just one thing, I want there to be something for everyone. I hope my music is a safe space for people to be themselves and to know they are not alone in whatever they are going through!
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: This is just the beginning for me so I definitely think there is more to come but I have had people reach out and tell me how much my music means to them or has helped them in some way and I feel pretty fulfilled knowing that!
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: It’s different with each song, usually I come up with a melody and lyrics on my acoustic and then fill in around that idea. More recently, I have been creating the instrumental first, starting with either piano, synths, or bass, and then building the song around that until I can hear a melody or put some lyrics to it.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: I think the most difficult thing I’ve had to endure in life is loss, but I can put those feelings into my songs and create something beautiful with them. In music, I’ve had a lot of struggles with producers not finishing my songs, and not being able to release the music I want to so this year I started learning how to produce myself!
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: I played the Whiskey A GoGo in LA for the first time and had such a fun time, thinking about all the bands and artists who have played there before me is insane. Being able to play shows and meet people who love music as much as I do is pretty unmatched!
