Conversation With HOUNDS

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I grew up in a pub in Wales just down the road from Rockfield Recording Studios, so was privy to many different alternative artists who used to come in the pub for a drink after their recording session. I remember singing “Barbie Girl” on karaoke for my 8th birthday with Noel Gallagher from Oasis which was quite an amusing experience to say the least! After moving to the Isle of Wight I was overwhelmed with angst and anger towards my surroundings due to moving away from Wales and the Island being a retirement haven and devastatingly slow! As such I found myself listening to bands such as Nirvana, Korn, Minor Threat and Reuben. Which, as the years progressed; slowly evolved into the realms ofheavier bands such as Sikth, Knights of the Abyss, Bane and The Red Shore.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “HOUNDS”?

A: We plan on growing our fanbase and sharing our music by playing as many shows in as many different places as we possibly can. We’ve just set up a new website (www.houndsthebanduk.com) where you can find out everything HOUNDS related. Anyone that is about to discover HOUNDS – I hope you like aggressive, fast paced, hardcore/ metal.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Right, this second it has to be INTHEWHALE – we had the opportunity to play with them on their first UK tour to date recently and my God they are AMAZING. I have never witnessed a two piece make such a beautiful yet loud noise!

My inspiration for making music comes from my Father as well as my feelings and emotions towards a certain subject. Usually something will bother me so much I have to write a song about it.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “PADRÉ.”?

A: Padré is an amalgamation of different feelings and emotions. I first wrote the lyrics during Covid-19 so largely based around the concept of control and manipulation. There are a few odes to my now deceased father of which the song is named after, but I will leave that up to you to work out!

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Aggressive/ Energetic

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “PADRÉ”?

A: No challenges at all. Would you believe it actually went down without a hitch!

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: Our overall message is to not take anything too seriously. Just have fun doing what you love and don’t take crap from anyone as they are not, nor will they ever be above you.

Our goals are just to keep pushing until we’ve taken over the world one country at a time.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: I personally would have loved to have collaborated with Kurt Cobain and would love to partner up with The Acacia Strain at some point in the future.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Don’t do it for the money. Do it for the love and enjoyment. Money is just an added bonus for doing what you love on a regular basis.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Keep doing what you’re doing, mistakes will be made, but it’s all worth it in the end. Try not to get too salty. STAY GLOOMY.
