Conversation With Horizon

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A:  Growing in Trenton, New Jersey before relocating to Tampa, Florida was a great experience. Listening to Northern style music and then Southern Style music was fun to me. I started my poetry writing living in the North and began polishing my craft in the South. I got started back in the 80’s and 90’s listening to other signed artists at that time. Not to mention my early escapades in elementary school testing out various instruments like the trumpet, flute, and keyboard. None of which was mastered, for some reason I put more time in baseball and basketball.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Horizon”?

A: I’m currently working alongside other musically inclined and professionally driven individuals that are focused on achieving greater success. The ultimate goal is to market and promote every way possible to get the best results. For those that are about to discover “Horizon” I’d say pay attention to the narratives and lyrical wordplay. It all will do either: Motivate, Inspire, make you think, or educate.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Right now I will say that there is a guy who is an artist named “Funkghost”. I say this because he is a person I work out of the same recording studio, older than me, enjoy my art, work hard at it like myself, and have similar goals based around music. When it comes to music he takes it seriously like me. I respect that drive inside him and we both decided to collaborate on the “Shine Beyond Remix”. My inspiration comes from good quality and fun songs made by other artists. Another vice is channeling real life experiences and frustration through writing. When that is executed correctly the joy it brings is no comparison.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Shine Beyond.”?

A: Shine Beyond describes the love of hip hop music, the process of developing to become one, and actions of various experiences occurring along that process. I love the song.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: My sound is definitely an “Old-School” vibe.

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Shine Beyond”?

A: Shine Beyond was a song pieced together over a period of years. Starting with the title which again was called “Shine Beyond Local” . I could never find the perfect beat for it. Then my lyrics was put together by listening to the beats of other artists’ songs. The hook was created while driving in my car, it’s crazy how my writing juices hits me in weirdest places and times. I’m talking about taking a shower or middle of the night waking from sleep.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: I’d say the message of music has no limitation because it may transition through the years. But I will say it involves hard work, sacrifice, real talk, and experiences some of us already heard just delivered in a different way.

My goal as an artist is to become addicted to perfecting my craft. That includes remaining a student to learn the things I don’t know and do what I’ve never done.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: Another artist I’d like to collaborate with is anyone responsible for bringing recognition to the state I was born “New Jersey.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: My advice is to create a fund for yourself to invest in yourself. Focus on your art as much as possible. And most importantly study the business side of things.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: I would become a mentor to myself holding strict measures of accountability. Set goals that relate to the art and craft to ensure I’m growing stronger for what’s to come.
