Conversation With HADLEY

Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?

A: I am from Marietta, Georgia. I lived in a few different cities and towns in Georgia growing up, but I spent all of my “important” years in Marietta. I remember dressing up with a feather boa, flared jeans, a cheetah print tank top, and using one of those plastic microphones that echoed for shoes in my living room. (Yes, unfortunately I do have not only a picture, BUT a blanket of the picture….AND a LIFE SIZE CUT OUT of it lol.) I don’t know exactly who made me want to start a music career because as long as I can remember, I have loved singing. My mom, my grandmother, my grandfather, and my great grandfather were very musical. I do know when I was about 12/13, my stepdad was standing outside my bedroom door while I was singing some cover, and he asked if I wanted to be a singer/musician. I remember freezing for a second. I had never thought about that being a possible career. He held up to his promise and got me into lessons immediately.

Q: And what other artists have you found yourself listening to lately?

A: Ashley McBride, Morgan Wallen, Hardy, Lauren Alaina, Kassi Ashton, Kasey Tyndall, Logan Crosby, Kameron Marlowe

Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences?

A: Demi Lovato, Sam Smith, Miley Cyrus, Miranda Lambert, Aretha Franklin

Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Trust Issues’. Is there a story behind it?

A: I was asked by someone if I would’ve been interested in cutting a new song. They told me they thought it sounded like me and was a good fit, so I took a listen and immediately loved it. There was no doubt about the fact that I wanted to cut it. I felt a connection with it. I lost a relationship with my father early on for the simple reason, I couldn’t trust him. Also, every relationship I have ever been in, I have put my all in and then actions are made and there is no longer any trust.

Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?

A: I am in the process of writing some new songs right now! I don’t have a specific date at the moment, but will definitely keep y’all posted.

Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?

A: I would like to say I have a soulful voice that I mix with country music. I would like to think people get a certain feeling or impact when they hear me sing. I want to always portray what I am singing because everybody connects to lyrics differently. I don’t want it to be fake, or else its just background noise.

Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?

A: I definitely do think it has given me so much happiness and joy, but at the same time I think I am ready for the next level. I want more. I am ready for more. I am willing to work as hard as I need to in order to achieve more.

Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?

A: I honestly just ping pong all over the place. I start with one idea and build a web off of that, and by the end, I could be writing the complete opposite type of song. I never know. That is the beauty of songwriting and music. So many things can be turned into different meanings or scenarios.

Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?

A: My parents divorce definitely hit me hard, but it also has made me who I am today. I would’ve never been introduced to Nashville or music like I have been by my stepdad. I will say the hardest thing about being in it full time is also not letting myself get into my head too much. It is so easy to compare yourself. I did lose myself for a little bit after I quit my full time job at Tootsies. I was killing myself in so many ways and I needed a break. I did take one, but during that break I did realize this is what I want to be doing and this is who I am. So all in all, any struggle makes every outcome worth it.

Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?

A: I got to sing the National Anthem at a Braves Game and all different events. I started playing at Tootsies at 14 and kept playing there until I was 23. I have built a fan base that I truly love and know they love me. I am so happy I make people feel comfortable around me and love me enough to follow me around and keep up with me. I am proud of getting rid of being shy on stage. The most successes for me is just affecting people in a positive way, anyway I can. “When words fail, music speaks.”
