Conversation With George Rose

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: My childhood was very much a mixed bag musically, from rock bands like QUEEN, queer icons like Kylie Minogue & Donna Summer to R&B/Soul stars like Stevie Wonder.. I was raised with a bit of everything and I think that’s why I like experimenting so much with my sound.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “George Rose”?

A: Continuing to experiment making music that I think different types of people will enjoy, I like to think that my music offers something for everyone and has its own unique flair to it & the message I would have would be “expect the unexpected” because I’m quite a versatile artist which again, is something that is key to my artistry.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: This constantly changes but lately i’ve been very inspired by Pink Floyd.. I just think they’re a phenomenal band and really have a way with creating music. I find inspiration from within my own life and the things I have gone through but also by analysing the lives of people around me. I like to imagine every moment or feeling has a song to go with it.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “SOUL CONNECTION.”?

A: Absolutely! “SOUL CONNECTION” was inspired by my experience with my ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Something that a lot of people with ASD have is a “special interest” which is when a person with ASD finds something to be completely fascinated by, and captivated with & for me personally that deep desire to explore my special interests can take me away from my life to drastic extents at times. It’s a struggle. I penned “SOUL CONNECTION” as a love song almost comparing my connection with my special interest to that of a complex romantic relationship

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Electric. Everything I make has a spark to it, or something about it that makes it standout.

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “SOUL CONNECTION”?

A:  Oh for sure. It’s a 5 minute song that switches between multiple genre’s, making the whole song flow in general was a struggle but it all came together in the end.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: The message of my music is to be unapologetically authentic. Never shy away from who you are. My goals are to gather like-minded people who also see the world through a slightly odd perspective.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A:  Oooh now that is a tricky one.. Dead i’ll say Freddie Mercury he just has a massive influence over me & alive i’d have to say Lucky Daye, I love his latest album and D’Miles work on it.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Don’t let anyone tell you what is and isn’t good enough, take criticism of course but you cannot grow without releasing & as an artist you will always be growing, so don’t ever stop making music in fear of it not being good enough.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: You fight very hard for everything you have, so much so that you are a bit of a crazed perfectionist. Imperfection is beautiful too, don’t try so hard.
