Conversation With Gabby

Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?

A: Hey! I come from a small town in Pennsylvania called Franklin. It’s right in between Pittsburgh and Erie, but I’m Pittsburgh based.

I have always been a creative person at heart. But when I was little my uncle got me a karaoke machine for Christmas, and I just remember something snapping in me in that moment. I was probably about 4 or 5 years old.

Q: Did you have any formal training, or are you self-taught?

A: I was in choir throughout elementary and high school. The teachers helped with stuff here and there when it came to us as individuals and our voices, but I am mainly self taught. The technicals aren’t perfect, but they’re good enough!

Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences?

A: My first ever musical influence was Miss Miley Ray Cyrus. I grew up on Hannah Montana and I was just FASCINATED with her and her songs. The more that I grew up, I definitely gravitated towards Lana Del Rey, Halsey, Nicki Minaj, and Eminem. I admired all of their talent in their lyricism and their individual styles that were so distinctive.

Q: You have just released your new EP, ‘Confessions From My Bedroom’. Is there a story behind it?

A: Yes! So, I use to write a LOT when I was younger. I would either write in my diary every day after school or I would write stories on the internet. I would do both of those things in the sanctuary of my bedroom, because I felt so protected and was able to write down my deepest thoughts, desires and emotions. I feel like a lot of girls can relate to how writing in their diaries in their bedroom is a very vulnerable feeling.

Q: Were there any specific challenges or breakthrough moments during the album’s production?

A: Honestly, every single song is a challenge. I had a lot more than three songs originally going into it, but sometimes you go in to record something and it just doesn’t work out.

Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?

A: Definitely my lyrics. I enjoy telling stories and captivating an audience with what I’m saying. At the moment, I think it’s very chill and melodic. It’s easy on the ears and kinda dreamy.

Q: Are there any tracks on “Confessions From My Bedroom” that hold particular significance to you?

A: All of them hold significance to me in one way or another. But, I think ‘Thoughts At Breakfast’ holds the most significance to me. It’s really just a random little song about racing thoughts, and jumping from point A to B to C in a matter of minutes. It gets frustrating to try to write and stay on track for me, so I just let my mind wonder for this song and it ended up working out for me way more than it would have if i had wrote it in a traditional way.

Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?

A: Everything comes at the weirdest times for me. I drive for my job, so I’m always in the car. The process for me is to create lines in my head and just go with the flow most of the time. Or sometimes I’ll hear a beat that catches my attention, and I’ll write the song in my mind, and then jot it down later when I’m done driving. A lot of the time, my brain is reaching back into the deepest parts of itself, because I will end up writing about situations that I thought I was over or feelings I wasn’t aware I even had.

Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?

A: The most difficult thing is definitely getting people to take you seriously. I feel like the audience is the same no matter if you’re in a small town or a big city. People are judging you, and without even listening to your music, they are putting you in a box with other people trying to do the same things as you. It’s a lot of persistence to push your music into people’s face to where they eventually listen to it and think “hmm, this actually WASN’T what I thought it was going to be.”

Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?

A: As of recently I was selected to perform at Moon Vibez Music Fest in Brooklyn, New York. That really solidified for me how real this career and this life can become if you are willing to pursue things in the right way. It’ll be my first live performance of anything from my discography and my first performance out of state. Not to mention, it’s my first festival!
