Conversation With Fungai

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I’ve been writing songs for a while now, 15 years precisely. I’m into other things like photography and art. I started writing when I was around 13. As a child I listened to pop music a lot, danced as well. I knew music was my passion from a really young age. The dream started when I was really young.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Ethan Cronin, Fungai”?

A: We definitely have a lot in store. We are going to switch up our sound with each project and we want our fans to expect anything. We are going to create visuals for all our songs so that our fans can get the full experience.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Most inspiring artist right now is Billie Eilish. Her sound is phenomenal. We draw inspiration from mainstream music because we want to study the winning formula that has worked for some famous songs. We also listen to underground music for the answer to the question, what’s the next big sound?

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Mind Painted By Picasso.”?

A: It was inspired by someone who had a really beautiful mind but in a way that was different. The only way I could describe it was “ your mind was painted by Picasso”. We are trying to make people realise just how memorable someone’s mind can be.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Multidimensional

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Mind Painted By Picasso”?

A: Major challenge was trying to write something that was a pop rock ballad but didn’t sound like a typical pop rock ballad. We wanted it to sound different, fresh.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A:  With our music we want to stir emotions. Mind Painted By Picasso makes you feel hollow and sad, but we want people to feel good as well with our future projects.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: I’m a huge Pink Floyd fan! Their music is a whole experience! It would be a dream to work with them.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Want to know what pleases everyone? Nothing. Make music that you enjoy, if the melody sounds like a good melody to you awesome job!

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Be grateful for the music, it will brighten up your days.
