Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: I grew up as a child of divorced parents but despite the challenges, I was fortunate to have the support of my mom and stepdad who recognized my passion for music early on. Their unconditional support has played a huge part in shaping my musical journey and getting me to where I am today. I got into singing when I was about ten years old and have been developing my voice ever since. Then, at around 15 I started writing my own songs. At first, my songs were kinda fueled by dealing with a not so interested father, but I’ve moved past that now. These days, I’m more into exploring different themes and vibes in my music.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Fleur Rose”?
A: Well, you know how it works these days, social media is where it’s at for artists. So, I’m putting in the work to up my game on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. Building up that fanbase is crucial, and I’m all about connecting with people who like my vibe.
To anyone about to discover me, I’d probably say buckle up because there’s some cool stuff in the pipeline. Stay tuned, keep an eye on my socials, and I’ve got a feeling that you’re gonna like what’s coming your way.
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: Right now, I’d have to say Taylor Swift is a huge inspiration for me. I know it’s a bit of a mainstream answer but hear me out. I’ve been a fan for a while, not exactly a hardcore Swiftie, but I’ve always appreciated her music. I’ve got the chance to see her play at her 1989 tour and it was an awesome experience. What I admire about Taylor is how connected she is with her fans. Watching her career unfold over the past few years, it’s clear she’s been doing everything right.
To answer your other question, it really depends on whether I’m writing alone or collaborating with others. When I’m writing with co-writers, we typically brainstorm and decide on a theme to kick things off. It’s a collaborative process, bouncing ideas off each other and seeing where it takes us. When I’m writing alone you can bet that about 99% of the time, it’s something personal that inspired me. Afterwards, I often take these ideas into a session with one of my co-writers and together we polish it up.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “let them hear you roar.”?
A: The story behind ‘let them hear you roar’ is pretty straight forward. The message is finding the strength to let go and, in doing so, letting the world hear your voice and see who you truly are. It’s a song about empowerment, self-expression, and the courage to be authentic.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: Evolving
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “let them hear you roar”?
A: Yes! ‘Let Them Hear You Roar’ had its fair share of challenges. First off, we didn’t create the song in a traditional studio setting; it all happened over Zoom. That alone presented its own set of hurdles. It took us about a year from the initial idea to the final master.
Originally, the song started as a ballad, but we decided to switch things up and give it a dance-pop vibe. That meant changing the key, which, trust me, was no small feat. I’m pretty particular about my vocals, so getting them just right took some serious time and tweaking. But hey, the process was all worth it in the end, and I’m super proud of how ‘Let Them Hear You Roar’ turned out!
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: It’s important to me as an artist to have a positive impact on peoples lives. No matter how sad one of my songs might be, there will always be a positive message hidden somewhere. My goal is to share music that inspires and empowers my listeners.
One of my big dreams as an artist is to eventually do a concert at Madison Square Garden.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with?
A: There are so many incredible artists I’d love to collaborate with. If I had to narrow it down, for a song collaboration, I’d really like to work with Camylio. I like the vibe of his music and I think our voices would work really well together. When it comes to songwriting, I’d jump at the chance to collaborate with Julia Michaels. There’s something unique about the way she writes songs, and it would be an honor to work with her at some point in my career.
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: Be open to try out different things. Personally, I used to stick to ballads and never thought I’d like to try out something else. That changed when I participated in a songwriting camp in London last year where the focus was more on dance pop. I realized that I like to do more upbeat stuff in my upcoming releases. So, my advice is to explore, experiment, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: If I could give younger Fleur a word of advice, I’d tell her to have more courage. I spent a lot of time worrying about what others might think if I pursued music. Now, my mantra is, ‘They gonna talk anyways so who cares.’ Embracing that mindset earlier on would’ve saved me some time. So, to my younger self and anyone else, don’t let the fear of judgment slow you down.
