Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: I am from Manchester UK and I have gone through education following the route of music. My dad was a DJ and spent a lot of time playing gigs around the northwest as I was growing up. I then studied music at college and university and went on to play in a metal band for several years before picking up the midi keyboard and taking on the House music.
Q: And what other artists have you found yourself listening to lately?
A: At the moment I have been listening to a lot of The Beatles and Silk Sonic. I’m in quite a pop/funk phase at the moment and the 70s funk vibes that Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak are bringing to the table is great inspiration for me.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences, and why the name ‘Faster Faster’?
A: Metal and Pop Punk is what I have grown up with and artists such as Architects and Blink182 really sit with me and I think going into House music this has allowed me to be completely open minded and just land on a style that has come naturally to me and it is due to this previous taste and growning up in bands which gave me the name. Faster Faster was a name that I had for want was going to be a punk project but then Covid hit and that project sank. Having everything set up and ready to still move forward I just began to play on the piano and it was just House music that came out and I just felt like that name I had needed to be used.
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Only You’. Is there a story behind it?
A: Yes. I really feel the track captures the excitement of having that one thing in your life that you bounce off and need; be that family, friends, a partner or a pet. The song is a beautiful metaphor to just enjoy whatever that is. Fuelled with catchy hooks and a drop which will definitely have you tapping your foot and nodding your head to.
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: This is something that I have been thinkingabout for a while now and I like that i only have singles at the moment and think that it could be quite a nice and unique thing to never have an EP or album or even have the last thing I do to be that.
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: I think there’s strong melodies and I am really proud of everything I’ve written and like to describe it as a sound for summer. These kind of tracks fit perfectly with this time of year and are great for sitting in the sun with a refreshing drink and good people around you.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: This is a great question. Especially because some tracks have taken weeks and others have been a few hours but even those shorter ones have a great deal of energy, effort and meaning behind them and when I hear even one person say they enjoy the song it’s pure joy and makes up for all the no’s I may get from other representatives or agencies.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: More often than not I sit at the piano and just play. I just mess around with chords until something interests me. I’m a bit of a Music Theory nerd so I some times think of a key signature in my head and then play around with chords in that key. More often than not I go straight to its relative minor and then start to layer whatever chords I have with melodies and samples.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: Being dropped from a previous label. It was very humbling and immediately gave me perspective. On the label I was having to follow some strict deadlines to release and it meant that some tracks felt rushed for me and now I can release on my own terms which allows me to be more creative.
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: Getting signed. Contradictory I know. Having been dropped and it not feel so good but at the same time getting signed gave me a huge insight into the industry and just how important other aspects of you brand are. Being able to network and learn that Music actually can go so much beyond the music.
