Conversation With Eugenia Post Meridiem

Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?

A: we all come from different backgrounds, Eugenia and Giovanni comes from humanistic studies while Matteo (bass) studied multimedia composition and Matteo (drums) studied Jazz drums. The music career began when we started to work with a more professional aim by planning releases and gigs.

Q: Did you have any formal training, or are you self-taught?

A: Not all of us have formal training, for example Eugenia and Giovanni are mainly self thaught while Matteo and Matteo studied music, however we took the knowledge of the two Matteos amd blend it with the istint of Eugenia and Giovanni

Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences, and why the name ‘Eugenia Post Meridiem’?

A: We all come from different musical backgrounds but bands like Radiohead or Verdena have always been a common listening.

The name comes from Eugenia’s perception of noon as moment in the day full of cultural, philosophical and emotional sense that she uses to investigate in her own spirit.

Q: You have just released your new single, ‘willpower’. Is there a story behind it?

A: This song tells something about the onset of a precious thought in the mind of a teenager which keeps growing until it’s shared. Then it starts to insinuate in other minds, as an intuition, a desire, a hope, a fear, or something we always look up to.

Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?

A: Yes, we’re set to release our second album “Like i need a tension” through Bronson recordings

Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?

A: We don’t think our music has only one face, we think that our way of composing is like a colorful tropical forest, if you go deep inside you can see close and dark spaces, small fractures in the trees where you can look inside and also bright and sunny spots with colorful flowers. The main thing we want to achieve is new music, that if you listen to it you feel something new.

Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?

A: The musical results we have from our music are really fullfilling but financially speaking it’s hard, it is a continuous investment and we don’t have much in return, it is an hard job.

Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do you usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?

A: For the upcoming record we started from someone’s idea and we developed it, each one of us gave his/her unique fingerprint to the artistic process.

Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?

A: The pandemic broke our spirit a lot, we were about to upgrade our status to be real professionals, it was hard to endure and keep up.

Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?

A: It is an interesting question, regarding musical achievement we are very proud of the songs that came up during our composing process, and from a professional perspective we had a lot of satisfaction when we played in festivals abroad like at Mil in Lisbon or Reepherban in Hamburg, there we got a lot of positive reactions to our music.
