Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: We grew up in the countryside of Kildare in a place called Eadestown , it’s pretty far out of the city and is honestly a totally different world compared to city life , In terms of creativity , We all naturally fell into creating our own music through the connection we have to the artists we have listened to growing up.
Q: Did you have any formal training, or are you self-taught?
A: We are all self taught musicians , we all learned a lot from writing songs and covering songs in smaller groups growing up before getting together.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences, and why the name ‘Blue Slate’?
A: We are very fond of the same music as each other , which really helps , we take a lot of influence from 90s alternative music and 60s psychedelic music , bands like Duster , Modest Mouse , Heatmiser , Grandaddy and more of this sort . The alias Blue Slate really has no particular meaning , it’s just a name for the body of music.
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Wipers’. Is there a story behind it?
A: It started when John and Pierce wrote the melody and chords a few months back together in Pierce’s shed , when we brought it to the band it naturally fell together in the formation you hear it on the record . The meaning behind the song is “ freedom from pain and suffering “ ~ John
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: We are working on projects all the time but couldn’t say when the world will hear it.
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: Our music is a reflection of our lives , its an honest platform for expression and we feel like that’s evident in both our records and our performances , as far as the music , we really try to make music we love to hear.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: I think we are definitely going in the right direction , as a band we are happy with the reaction to Blue Slate , but we always want more and want to be heard by as many people as we can.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: It starts when John and Pierce come together and work on ideas they’re writing and from that a general idea of the songs form , they then bring it to the band and it work on it until its ready it’s to be heard.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: In terms of our lives we have all had our own things to deal with like everyone else , but in terms of music I think starting off is a rough place to be in but is necessary.
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: The release of controlled aggression and just trying to express it all in a way that allows people to relate it to their own lives.
