Conversation With bennett

Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?

A: I have always enjoyed listening to music. Once I started playing instruments. I found it was a great way to express myself. I wouldn’t say I started a career in music. I don’t really have any desire to make a career out of my music. Just want to share it with those that would like it. Of course, I would not say no to and $$$ that might come from it.

Q: And what other artists have you found yourself listening to lately?

A: I am a big fan of a band called Myracle Brah. If you really like great song writing, and a great sound, check them out. No joke, I can’t stop listening to their tracks.

Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences?

A: Boomtown Rats has to be number 1. Then the Vapors and the Police.

Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Get out of my Way’. Is there a story behind it?

A: Yep, the story is basically in the title. If anyone has ever been in traffic – or in line at the store – or tried to say something, and someone talked over you, or put their needs over fairness for everyone, and this happens all the time. If you ever experienced any of those things, you understand the meaning of the song.

Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?

A: This is a good question, I believe the time for EPs and albums and full CDs are over. I release 4 songs at a time through my distributor. I believe this is the future of streaming and releasing music. Each 4 song release will be a different color of my logo. Right now I am recording my 8th song of my 2nd 4 song release. All available on Spotify and Apple Music, and most music streaming platforms. My guess is, I will release 4 songs every 6 months or so.

Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?

A: I like to keep it simple and create well crafted songs. I have been told that I have a 1990s basic rock sound, which I can agree with, but… I just create what I think sounds good and makes sense to me. If it makes sense to others, great…

Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?

A: I never really thought about fulfillment, or about the amount of effort I put into it. I just like doing it. I am not really looking for a return investment to full fill any need within myself.

Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?

A: I usually have a concept of what I want to say. Then it’s just putting chords and a melody that is connected to the concept of the song. Many times I write the verses first, and use the chorus to meet the message of the verses.

Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?

A: Oh, I love this question, and I could go one for hours about it. There are soooo  many people trying to make money off independent musicians. One of my favorite scams is Submit Hub. They actually want the musician to pay someone to listen to their music. It’s so wrong. They will get paid to pretend to listen to tracks, and then reject you with slight feedback to make you think they actually listen to it. Trust me. They didn’t really listen to it, and they just collect the check from the service – who also makes money off the independent musician. I think they get paid 5 dollars for every listen. It’s wrong. Not to mention, the hundreds of emails I get with false promises, and people trying to rip you off. It’s hard to know who can really help your music, and who is just looking to make quick money off you, and then wait for the next person who wants a career in music to rip off again.

Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?

A: That’s easy. Leaving something of myself behind for my daughter to remember me by. I believe that is what I am most proud of. If others want to along for the ride. They are welcome to join us.
