Conversation With ADZii BOii

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: My name is Adam, stage name ADZii BOii, an Alternative Hip-Hop Artist from Wishaw, Scotland. As a child I often turned to music during hard times. I would say for me music was therapeutic. As a teenager my love for music developed further and I started remixing dance tracks using acapellas. A desire to mix tracks stays with me to this day, and I often suggest edits to my audio engineer before accepting the final master file. Regards being a rapper, I have been writing verses since I was a working 16-year-old and love being able to tell a story over a beat.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “ADZii BOii”?

A: I am investing in Facebook Ads to promote my Spotify account and find new fans.

I have also been attending music workshops in Scotland that have helped me put together a release plan for future tracks, including ‘Pleasure Beach’.

By networking I have managed to land some performance opportunities that I hope will help share my music even further. To all persons I would say, strap yourself in for a rollercoaster of emotions! ADZii BOii is an emotional artist who struggles with mental health and the dramatic delivery of his highs and lows are a relatable reminder to his audience of a shared experience.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Despite his death, Juice WRLD is still the most modern artist to inspire me.

Although I was writing songs before his passing, his catalogue of music inspired me to release the sad songs without feeling ashamed.

Music is a reflection of self, and as much as detailing my highs and lows on a track can help me feel better, I also hope help the people who can relate.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Pleasure Beach.”?

A: Engulf in the sunshine, waves and melodies as this masterpiece forces you outdoors this summer! This is a cheeky track that I put together, drawing influence from my inspiring artist Juice WLRD for the hook. It is written from the perspective of an arrogant male who believes he is a womaniser. The cocky wordplay over the vibrant instrumental makes for a summer smash hit.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: For the most part I would describe my sound as ’emotional’. I share experiences I believe many others would not discuss with even their closest friends. However, I know I am not alone in my experiences and hope to help others by expressing myself over music.

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Pleasure Beach”?

A: The biggest challenge was creating a Radio Edit version but capturing the same cadence and vibe. The methodical blend of guitars, organs and pianos instantly teleports you to a beach-like setting, so I wanted to release this “summer track” at all costs. However, I realise how important radio airplay is to finding new fans. I have never enjoyed overly censored songs playing on the radio, so I wanted to create an alternative version that could still get people’s attention.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: In general, my message is to be yourself and do what you want to do. Do not allow your mental health to dictate your every move. Life can be difficult but things can always get better when you stay positive. My goal is to make music my sole career. I also dream to be the headline act at a music festival.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: With posthumous albums still releasing I have to say my dream collaboration would involve Juice WRLD. I find his music so relatable and could easily jump on a track with him.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Be patient.

We all think our music is amazing and can get down-hearted if a song doesn’t do as well as expected. However, there are millions of artists out there, so it can take time to get your music in front of the right person(s). You must also stay positive. There is a lot of trial and error as you start your music career. Don’t let one step back stop your momentum. Keep pushing!

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Care less about what other people think of you. You’ll never please everyone, but by thinking you can you hold yourself back from achieving your goals. It’s important to be nice, but it’s more important to be yourself.
