ANT ENOCH – Television

Sydney solo artist ANT ENOCH has unveiled a spirited antidote to beat the January Blue with his latest single, “Television.” The track, a precursor to his upcoming debut EP ‘Big Talk Big Party,’ showcases Enoch’s unique blend of vivid lo-fi pop, infused with Antipodean optimism and retro-style analogue warmth.

Enoch, also known as Anthony Beard, takes center stage in Berlin’s thriving DIY scene, aligning himself with kindred spirits such as Okay Kaya, Lover Buffet, and The Zenmenn. “Television,” the debut track from Ant Enoch, narrates the poignant tale of witnessing a friend’s house burning down on the news. What makes this narrative distinctive is its juxtaposition against the song’s upbeat energy and understated production.

The composition features a steady drumbeat, tambourines, and a journeying melody that epitomizes pop songwriting at its most satisfying. Enoch masterfully maintains an emotional connection to the song’s underdog story, showcasing his rare ability to pen the songbook for life’s big-hearted moments.

“We wanted to paint a vivid picture of the underdog. A clear triumphant song that saw people choosing to carry on and choose love as the way through hardship,” says Ant Enoch, emphasizing the song’s thematic depth.

A byproduct of lockdown circumstances, Enoch’s musical project took shape in a DIY studio at the back of a mattress factory in Bankstown, Sydney. Spending weeks alone making music after hours, he crafted a unique sound using just a piano, a vintage drum machine, and vocals with great emotional granularity. The collaboration with a tight-knit Berlin community, including co-producers Georgia Potter and Riverside Studios resident engineer Julia Borelli, further enriched the single’s production.

This song was born out of a very intense writing experience. Seeing myself write 100 songs in 10 days. ‘Television’ began as a small idea, no. 54 of 100,” explains Enoch. The collaboration with Georgia led to an expansion of the story, aiming to create a triumphant anthem that resonates with those facing adversity.

In a recent interview with us, Enoch shared the backstory of “Television,” stating, “‘Television’ is a story about watching a friend’s house burn down on the news. There was plenty of imagery in that experience, and this song came about whilst trying to make something good out of a shit situation.”

“Television” stands as a testament to Ant Enoch’s musical journey, offering listeners a triumphant and emotionally charged experience. As anticipation builds for the release of ‘Big Talk Big Party’ on May 17, Enoch’s promising trajectory in the world of vivid lo-fi pop remains a captivating narrative worth following.
