Toronto musician and multi-instrumentalist Lennox Campbell-Berzins has released his debut instrumental album, “Lullabies For Lenny” and it’s a peaceful and captivating experience from start to finish. The album is a tribute to jazz guitarist Lenny Breau, whose unique “harp harmonic” technique inspired Lennox to create a collection of calming and harmonic-rich instrumentals. Each track flows seamlessly into the next, making this album perfect for moments when you need gentle background music, whether you’re relaxing at home, working or on a drive.
One of the most interesting aspects of this album is its recording story. Lennox recorded the album in Toronto’s Hot Docs cinema, a venue that holds its own unique character. With a limited three-hour window, he managed to capture each track in a single take, giving the music a raw and live feel that brings warmth and authenticity to the listening experience.
What truly stands out is the simplicity of the production and the skillful use of harmonic guitar work. Every note resonates with emotion, showing both dedication to his craft and respect for Lenny’s influence. The tracks are soft yet powerful, inviting listeners to get lost in the melodies without feeling overwhelmed.
This new album is more than just a beautiful tribute to an influential musician, it’s a thoughtful journey through music that feels genuine and personal. Our favorite part of this album is its simplicity. You can feel the care and patience put into every track, which makes it easy to get lost in the music. If you’re looking for something calm, beautiful and a bit different, this album is a wonderful choice. It’s safe to say that Lennox Campbell-Berzins has become one of our new favorite instrumentalists.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Lennox Campbell-Berzins is a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter based out of Toronto, ON, CA. Founder and frontman of local bands Ruby Cikada (2012-2017) and Broken Wolves (2018-2024), Lennox began his solo debut in 2018 and has released two albums under Lennox C.B. and one E.P. and album under the moniker “Sleepy Demons”. His newest release, “Lullabies for Lenny”, marks his instrumental debut with an album of jazz standards, dedicated to the memory of Canadian jazz guitar legend Lenny Breau. The album is markedly notable for it’s reliance on Breau’s signature “harp-harmonic” technique, a relatively unknown and under-developed technique that blends traditions of harp, piano, and guitar performance into a seamless blend that disassociates the listener from the normative sonic palette of a typical guitar performance. Part-jazz and ambient in nature, the album will be a treat for any fans of guitar, jazz, lofi, and ambient/mellow music listening.
