Massive Cranes, a musical collaboration between Adam “OSTR” Ostrowski and Dan Thurlow, has unveiled their latest single, “The Beginning,” a poignant exploration of life’s mundanity and the discovery of beauty within its simplicity. The track, featuring the mesmerizing vocals and piano skills of Helen Fisher, is not only a testament to artistic synergy but also a reflection of the resilience that emerged from personal struggles.
“The Beginning” captures the essence of finding solace in life’s ordinary moments, encouraging listeners to embrace the simplicity and not worry about trivial matters. According to the artists, the song marks one of their earliest collaborations, with Helen Fisher’s addition providing a delicate edge that was missing in the initial demos.
The narrative behind Massive Cranes is rooted in a long-standing friendship between Adam Ostrowski and Dan Thurlow, who had previously created music together in the noughties. Despite taking different paths in their musical journeys, the duo remained close. In 2021, Dan Thurlow faced a challenging battle with cancer, a journey that resonated with OSTR’s own experience with the disease a few years prior. Seeking a therapeutic outlet, they turned to music, creating a prolific collection of over 30 songs during Thurlow’s hospital visits.
Out of this emotional and creative crucible emerged Massive Cranes, a fully formed musical entity characterized by deep synth and drum-led compositions paired with honest and raw lyricism. The addition of Helen Fisher, with her exquisite vocals, poignant songwriting, and piano skills, elevated the project, infusing it with an uplifting yet melancholic energy.
“The Beginning” stands as a testament to the healing power of music and the strength that can emerge from adversity. The deep synth arrangements and drum-led beats provide a rich sonic backdrop for the raw and honest lyrics that delve into the complexities of life. Helen Fisher’s contribution adds a layer of delicate beauty, akin to the sound of broken glass, creating a unique and memorable listening experience.
What sets Massive Cranes apart is their ability to blend alternative melancholy with a danceable rhythm, creating a musical fusion that is both introspective and infectious. The track invites listeners to reflect on life’s challenges while also encouraging them to find joy in the ordinary moments, echoing the band’s journey of resilience and creativity in the face of adversity.
In “The Beginning,” Massive Cranes has crafted more than just a song; they have woven a tapestry of emotions, experiences, and musical artistry. The collaboration between Ostrowski, Thurlow, and Fisher has resulted in a track that not only resonates with authenticity but also serves as a testament to the transformative power of music in navigating life’s tumultuous journey.
