Conversation With Judell Rome

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A:
During my adolescence, my grandmother decided that I should become a member of a youth choir in the church. I was seven years of age at the time. Adding the mix of spiritual influences from  religious upbringing would inspire the undertone of my musical direction along with the majestic and spirit-filled dwellings of the southern coast.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Judell Rome”?

A: I consider myself a movie buff so the underlined composition of films always gets my attention. I’ve been growing accustomed to filming my own music videos. The idea of narrating music to visuals inspires me to connect with an audience with not just songs. Anyone who discovers me will naturally be  drawn to an inner reflection of what it means to not merely exist but to have an impact in society that encourages positive change.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Kendrick Lamar  is one of many artists that I look up to. My inspiration for music comes from the constant adversity of life and autonomy of being my authentic self.

Q: Can you tell us about the stories or messages behind “Sonic Bloom” and “Up.”?

A: The track “Sonic bloom” explains the process of an individual undergoing constant cycles of transformations in life while remaining who they are to the core and defying their own limitations.

The track “Up” is inspired by the indie film “Harvested” by the creative Alex West of Culture Forward Tv. The theme was to portray a music composition that energetically  matched the mood of suspense and realism based on similar narratives of conflict of my personal life experiences.

Q: How did your collaboration with Culture Forward TV come about? and Are there upcoming projects or collaborations with Culture Forward TV that you’re excited about?

A: During the course of my music journey I met talented and professional curators of Culture Forward tv. They granted me the opportunity to use my talents in a display of not only music but cinematography as well. My original debut was assisting a camera crew for one of their earlier films.  As far as future projects with culture forward, I remain open to any potential creative endeavors. Their scope of work is unique and inspiring.

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording these singles? Is there a particular line or verse in “Up” that holds special significance for you?

A: Fortunately I met no difficulty while creating the songs “Up” and “Sonic Bloom”. The compositions flowed with a familiar resonance. A verse in “Up” that stood out to me was “I ain’t really myself kill my ego.” I recognized that individuals can metaphorically wear masks that hide  aspects of their truest self based on societal standards.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: My message and goal in music is to illuminate the mind and allow one to transcend the confinements of perceived reality. I feel music is a bridge to the spiritual world where ideas of healing and uplifting are achieved. I believe that art and music is the unfinished expression of the creator that is channeled through those who unveils the unseen.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: My dream collaborations would be with any artists that resonate with my creative ideals and capacity to connect  their listeners to something that grooves and uplifts in a positive way. Narrowing down to one artist would be the late  Mac Miller.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: For anyone who is considering pursuing a career as an Indie artist, I recommend alleviating any idea that the destination is more important than the journey.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: If I could go back in time and give my younger self advice, I would tell him that you were always where you were supposed to be. Enjoy the process and love every moment, for they are forever fleeing.
