Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A) We all grew up “Downriver Rats” For those not from Michigan, downriver is a bunch of blue collar cities just south of Detroit. I’m from Lincoln Park, MI. We had parents who loved rock music and exposed us to the classics. We were all in different bands as kids and met by playing shows together in the local bar scene. Years later, we missed jamming and decided to get together just to write and play again. I don’t think we ever expected those first times back in the garage would launch Eva Under Fire but that’s exactly what happened. We are still a garage band and rehearse weekly when we’re not on the road.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Eva Under Fire”
A) Good old fashioned exposure. We play a ton of shows, we post a ton of posts, we always show up at the merch booth to hang with the fans and we love writing soooo there will always be a ton of new music coming from this band Our message is simple: be kind to self and others and when you have a tough time, come to the rock show and scream about it with us. And get some hugs
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A) Lyric writing is my therapy. I guess I get inspired by my own experiences mostly. I love the honesty and imagery coming from artists like Sleep Token + Jelly Roll. I’ve also been listening to Beartooth, Bad Omens, NF, Mothica, Shinedown, Halestorm, Ice Nine Kills, From Ashes To New and Nothing More.
Q: How would you describe your music’s genre, which combines elements of metal, pop, and classic rock? What influences your unique sound?
A) Our influences are all over the place lol. I listen to everything including alt pop, hip hop and country. My guys listen to everything from metal to grunge to electronic music. We are a rock band. Beyond that, I’m not sure how detailed you can get because our sound is pretty varied.
Q: How does it feel to be part of the North American tour with BUSH and BAD WOLVES this winter?
A) It’s honestly surreal. Chris and Ed have known each other forever and I think one of the first songs they learned and played together was Glycerine. So it’s a full circle moment for sure. The guys in Bad Wolves have been amazing to work with and of course I’m side stage singing along to their songs too. This lineup goes hard. It’s gonna be a great tour
Q: Tell us about your experience performing in Canada and your excitement for the Canadian tour stops.
A) We’ve never played in Canada before which is crazy since we’re right across the bridge! But we’ve made a lot of Canadian friends so I can’t wait to see them all on this tour!
Q: Congratulations on the one-year anniversary of your debut album, “LOVE, DRUGS & MISERY.” What inspired the release of the deluxe edition?
A) It seemed like the right thing to do. We were at the end of an album cycle and wanted to release another single before going to write album two. Cory Marks joined us for a new version of “Unstoppable” and it sparked the conversation. We thought, “there are songs that weren’t on album 1 that we still love and want people to hear so why not release a deluxe that has everything”?
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A) Brent Smith of Shinedown
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A) Do it for the love of playing and writing music. Compromise, but not too much. Care, but not too much.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A) You’ll go through some hard times and you’ll feel stronger for surviving them. Keep pursuing your pipe dream, it will lead you to amazing places.
