Conversation With Natasha Kitty Katt

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I was brought up in a soul music obsessed household. My Dad actually taught me how to DJ! My influences are across the board. I’m the type of person that will be zoned into Teddy Pendergrass for hours and then the next minute have Siouxsie & The Banshees blaring. I love my Italo, Disco, House, New Wave, 80s, Soul, Funk, Electronic and Boogie.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Natasha Kitty Katt”?

A: Spread the Kitty Katt gospel through the wonders of touring and social media. You’re one of us now.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: That’s such a tough question. My new album has been heavily influenced by Depeche Mode. They’ve always had a big impression on me. So I will go for them.

Q: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your new single?

A: The Lost Boys, especially Billy Wirth has been the inspiration for my new single. I love 80s sounds and vampires and this is my love letter to both. I’ve included some 90s references in the music video with Blade, but the sound and overall look has an 80s horror feel to it.

Q: What was the creative process like for writing and producing?

A: As a lover of all things Vamps, The Lost Boys is a stand out film for me. I remember my Auntie having the VHS when my sister and I were little. She put it on one day and I was hooked.  Give me 80s, vampires and a killer soundtrack and you have one happy Katt. When I composed Batt Danse, I could visualise a tribute to my beloved vampires, as well as paying tribute to the Danse Macabre. I wanted something with a creepy electronic edge, that made people move.

Q: How does “Batt Danse” differ from your previous music in terms of style and sound?

A: This single sees me explore my more italo / electronic side which covers the main sounds of my upcoming album, Synaptic Juice.

Q: Were there any specific musical influences that played a role in shaping the sound?

A: I’ve very much went for a creepy Italo / 80s, style for this number.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: This is beyond difficult, but I will go with David Bowie. The man was a genius.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Keep going, you will get knock backs and people won’t always get what you’re doing, but push through it and ALWAYS stay authentic.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Your individuality will be your biggest asset when you grow up. People don’t get it now, but one day they will.
