Hot on the heels of the recent success of ‘Marie,’ The Gleeman has made his highly anticipated return with the captivating new single, ‘Somebody,’ which was officially released on September 15th. This toe-tapping, infectious groove is the second single from his debut album, ‘Something To Say,’ scheduled for release next year. ‘Somebody’ features a catchy chorus that weaves a conflicted tale of loss, loneliness, and the yearning for companionship, all set against a backdrop of guilt and betrayal. With its steady build, impressive harmonies, and lively brass accompaniment, the song takes an unexpected but welcome turn, culminating in a contemplative and poignant denouement.
The Gleeman’s storytelling prowess is further enriched by the accompanying music video, directed by the BAFTA-winning and EMMY-nominated TV & Feature Film Director, Martin Gooch. Gooch’s creative vision amplifies the song’s narrative, creating a visual experience that brings ‘Somebody’ to life. The video features Genevieve Gaunt, known for her roles in ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘The Royals,’ and the upcoming Sky Original film ‘Arthur’s Whisky,’ as well as Emily Milburn, a former ‘Neighbours’ actress.
“Somebody” is part of a larger collection of songs collectively known as ‘The Ballad Of Aaron & Amy.’ These songs feature the same protagonists and interweave a single narrative across them. The Gleeman elaborates on the song’s theme, saying, “After losing the love of his life 10 years prior, Aaron is conflicted and torn. On one hand, he continues to feel lonely and desires to share his life with ‘Somebody.’ On the other hand, he is trepidatious that he will be betraying his former partner if he moves on. In his desperation for a resolve, he beseeches through the ether for a sign from her that it’s OK.”
The evocative storytelling in ‘Somebody’ is emblematic of The Gleeman’s signature style, which seamlessly blends emotionally charged lyrics with an irresistible musical backdrop. This juxtaposition of conflicting emotions, combined with the catchy melody and rich instrumentation, creates a memorable listening experience that resonates with audiences.
‘Somebody’ not only showcases The Gleeman’s musical talents but also his ability to craft a narrative that tugs at the heartstrings. The song’s relatable theme of navigating the complexities of love, loss, and moving forward strikes a chord with listeners, making it a must-listen track from ‘Something To Say.’
As The Gleeman continues to build anticipation for his debut album, ‘Somebody’ serves as a powerful testament to his songwriting and storytelling abilities. With its heartfelt lyrics, memorable melody, and stunning music video, ‘Somebody’ is now officially released and is sure to captivate audiences, leaving them eagerly awaiting the release of ‘Something To Say.’
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Those of us with ears wide open to winning pop melodies, meaningful lyrics and time-honoured song craft sat bolt upright recently to welcome the arrival of The Gleeman.
‘The Gunslinger’ Acoustic EP marked a refreshing return to the sort of skilled compositions that you might have thought were lost somewhere around the late 1970s. These evocative pieces have had listeners reaching for the who’s who of A-list singers and writers that they evoke.
It’s impossible not to notice the consistent calibre of the song writing, which is quite extraordinary. The Gleeman is a storyteller, sometimes fictional, sometimes devastatingly personal, with melodies that will stick with you and lyrics that will entice you and draw you in deeper.
A key figure in the journey of The Gleeman was David Grant, a man who knew the pop game inside out as an A-list hitmaker himself. When it was time to record his debut album Something To Say, David put The Gleeman in touch with producer Will Hicks (Ed Sheeran) and whilst The Gleeman is a multi-instrumentalist, the recordings have been augmented by a fine cast of supporting musicians including Ash Soan on drums (Adele), Fred Abbott on guitar/keys (Noah And The Whale) and indeed, David Grant on backing vocals.
With a mantra to live life by based on Norman Vincent Peale’s quote: “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” and with songs that indeed have Something To Say, expect to be inspired by a lot more of The Gleeman.
