Conversation With Mourning Wood

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I saw shows like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Biker Mice From Mars that were filled with great rock and heavy metal music. The musical seed was planted back then. MTV was also a big influence growing up and Beavis And Butthead.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Mourning Wood”?

A: We are actively creating new content on social media. Recently, we agreed to start working with a promotion company. Mourning Wood is your cup of tea if you like melancholic metal music with rich harmonies, strong subject matter and with a sprinkle of dark humor on top. We put the fun in funeral.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Sentenced (Finnish metal band) has always been the biggest inspiration, but Ozzy Osbourne continues to be an inspiration because of his resilience and dedication towards making great music no matter what. I personally find inspiration in stupid word play and puns, but also in mental health issues and great music of course.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the EP, “Fill Your Grave.”?

A: The writing process started a few years ago when Covid-19 hit and the need for an emotional outlet was imminent. There was a lot going on with life in general back then so that’s why mental health, substance abuse and death became the core themes on Fill Your Grave.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Captivating

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Fill Your Grave”?

A: Only slight scheduling issues since every member of the group lives in a different city.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: It’s okay to talk about taboo subjects, to express emotion and it’s okay not being okay. My goal as an artist is to do music that I like as an expression of my inner self and play live with my best friends. It never hurts if other people enjoy our music as well.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: Rob Halford/Judas Priest

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Be patient, active and realistic with your expectations. Master your craft/instrument and most of all, do things that you really enjoy no matter what others say.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to feel. Be brave.
