Q: Can you share with our audience a bit about your personal musical journey and what initially inspired you to pursue a career in music?
A: My first concert was Paramore and No Doubt in 2009, I knew I wanted to make music and play shows ever since that moment! I went to concerts pretty regularly after that and always used music to cope with life so that fueled my passion for the art!
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music or performing?
A: I love playing sports, climbing rocks, riding horses, and artsy things like photography, and pottery!
Q: Are there any artists or genres outside of your usual style that you’d like to explore in the future?
A: I love this question! I love mixing genres and creating things that sound unusual but appealing. I’d love to do something in the folk genre like Hozier or Noah Kahn style, I think my voice would match that genre really well. I also would love to work with some heavier musicians like Bring me the Horizon or Sleeping with Sirens.
Q: What is your favorite part of the songwriting process, and why?
A: the whole process is pretty fun, I think my favorite part is either getting that final master back where everything sounds super polished, or fitting the lyrics and melody’s in with the music because there are so many different ways you can go about it and it’s just really fun to explore all the possibilities!
Q: How do you maintain a balance between staying true to your artistic vision and meeting audience expectations?
A: the hard thing about audience expectations is that you can’t please everybody, no matter what you do or how many people like your music there will always be someone trying to bring you down. That being said, I don’t think I really balance it, I think if I stay true to my artistic vision and making the music that I believe in, hopefully someone out there will connect with it and that way I don’t have to worry about someone else’s ideas of who I should be or what kind of music I should be making.
Q: Can you tell us about the story behind “MEDICINE” and how the song came to be?
A: I actually met my friend Sif on an app called Vampr, it’s an app for musicians to meet other musicians. I sent her a very crappy melody idea and she sent me back a beautifully written instrumental. She resides in New York and I am in California, so I hope we can meet in person someday! I would absolutely love to work with her again!
Q: Can you describe the creative process behind writing and producing “MEDICINE”?
A: As I said above I sent over a very crappy melody idea and she sent back a full on instrumental, so I plugged that into my DAW and added some little things of my own. I came up with the lyrics and melody pretty quickly, we then got it mixed and mastered and that was that! We both really loved how it turned out!
Q: What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from “MEDICINE”?
A: For me this song talks a lot about how hard change can be and not wanting to become someone you don’t want to be or move on from who you’ve been. So in that aspect, I hope people can take away that it’s okay to questions life and have a hard time in the present. It’s okay to grow up and move on from things you thought would be there forever, and when it seems like you’re the only one struggling there are probably at least 3 other people in the same room struggling with you.
Q: Looking ahead, what can fans expect from INTICA in the near future, and is there anything you’d like to tease or share about upcoming projects?
A: I’m hoping to play a lot of shows soon and I am currently working on an EP!! It’s taking a little longer than expected but the wait will be worth it!
Q: Lastly, can you leave us with a message or piece of advice for your fans and aspiring musicians who may be reading this interview?
A: it’s okay to focus on yourself and make what sounds good to you, just keep going and you will find your people!
