Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: My mother signed me up for guitar lessons and I just never stopped playing. Her musical tastes became my tastes growing up. She was into the 80’s, Massive Guns n’ Roses fan which led to me liking Guns N’ Roses. As an adult, I still love all things 80’s
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Cosmo Blue”?
A: Cosmo Blue is a unique band, it is hard to put us into a box because we sound like an amalgamation of things. I would love for anyone to have a listen for themselves and tell me what influences they hear. In terms of growing my fan base, at the moment I have been trying to get in touch with Spotify curators and trying to get onto their playlists.
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: There’s a lot of great music emerging right now. My peers in Inner West Sydney are a big inspiration for me. Jackson is in an awesome band called Wicker Jane, Infinite Skies, Bad Absolam, Social Strangers, Wicked Envy, Blake Cateris, Hellz Abyss & Aurateque. All of these guys are in awesome bands and you should check them out when you get the chance.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Sweet Moments.”?
A: To me, this song is an exploration of Australia’s relationship to our natural environment.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: Weird
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Sweet Moments”?
A: Yes! The band fell apart during the recording process. I was left to record and complete the songs by myself. It has been a tedious 6 months of trying to get the music videos made and released.
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: My goal was to create music that didn’t fit into the norm. I wanted to create music that you have never seen before.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: Allan Holdsworth, if you have ever had the chance go and listen to his music because at times it doesn’t sound human. It would be fascinating to understand how he constructs his chords.
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: I have friends who are far more charismatic and talented than me; however, they don’t commit to anything. In 6 months they will be excited about being in a band but when things get hard they give up and move onto something else. Haha! they give up and move onto photography or boxing instead. I feel like we are at a point in society where it’s easier to just give up… so don’t.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: The only obstacle is you. Buy a metronome called a soundbrenner, it lets you play in perfect time. Don’t give up! When you are given a massive task, think in baby steps.
