Raised in the heart of the South, music has always been an integral part of her life, and her latest single, “Walking with the Lights Out,” is a testament to her passion and talent.
Growing up in a small town called Kingstree, South Carolina, Harriette’s earliest memories revolve around the church she was brought up in. Her love for music blossomed at a young age, and she fondly remembers singing in the church choir from the tender age of three. This early experience became the foundation for her musical journey and ignited her desire to pursue a career in music.
“Walking with the Lights Out” is Harriette Briscoe’s newest single, and it is a labor of love that showcases her incredible artistry. The story behind the creation of the song is as intriguing as its heartfelt lyrics. Harriette shares that during the making of her project, she wanted it to be a true reflection of her creativity and musical identity. Collaborating with her producer, Tweezy, she found the perfect beat for the song and knew she had something special on her hands. Late one night, she sat in her kitchen, working tirelessly to write the song, as she had studio time scheduled for the following morning. The beat played repeatedly, and amidst this musical inspiration, the words “walking with the lights out” resounded in her mind. The phrase struck a chord with her, and in just ten minutes, she had rewritten the entire song. With the lyrics flowing effortlessly, she entered the studio the next day, where her engineer, Slim, was also present, and let her creativity take control.
“Walking with the Lights Out” soon became an anthem of self-expression for Harriette. It encapsulates her journey, both as an artist and as a woman, embracing her identity and confidently walking her own path. The songwriting process was organic and spontaneous, a true reflection of her artistic brilliance. Interestingly, Harriette’s involvement with her church’s youth choir played a role in shaping the song’s final form. As a choir director at the Shiloh Community United Methodist Church in Newburg, she was planning to teach the kids the classic gospel song “This Little Light of Mine.” During a studio session, when “Walking with the Lights Out” played, she realized that the song had a spiritual connection to her personal journey. The essence of “This Little Light of Mine” was encapsulated in her latest creation, reflecting her grown-up perspective on life and faith.
With her soulful voice, Harriette Briscoe brings a unique blend of gospel, soul, and contemporary influences to “Walking with the Lights Out.” The song resonates with listeners, not only due to its catchy melody but also because of its empowering message. ABOUT THE ARTIST:
A true southern girl, born in a little town called Kingstree in South Carolina, music was always a part of my life. My earliest memories are of the church I grew up in. I remember singing in the church at the age of three and that experience fueled my love of music and singing.
In college, music once again entered my life and helped to put me through school with scholarships for singing in the gospel and concert choir. I participated in plays, musicals, and talent shows, and eventually thought of a career in entertainment, but with 2 children and a husband, I decided the time was not right.
Every Sunday morning in church, when it was my time to lead, prayers in my mind were loud, and fear was palpable, but just as His word said, He did not leave me. It never got easier; I just knew God was there, and if I let Him take control and did it for Him, His light would shine.
Never too old and never too late, working on a project during the pandemic, not understanding the path, led by blind faith. From the first song to the last, my journey is documented, and the evolution of my praise continues.
I am ready for my New Beginning and waiting for the path God has for me; I have always known music was my ministry, and she is prepared for whatever He has for me. Harriette has always been told “Be careful what you ask for”, she asks God to use me, and she is excited to see where He takes me next.
