Conversation With MARQ electronica

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: I was a quiet kid who grew up in the 80’s  with lots of synth music from The Eurythmics to Soft Cell, Propaganda to Tangerine Dream  and started clubbing when house music and dance music came to the forefront I think it’s heavily influenced me.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover MARQ electronica?

A: I am looking at avenues to grow my fanbase but cost is a huge factor, however I know I need a stronger online presence, it’s difficult , trying to juggle creativity, new music, promotion, and performance when I have 2 day jobs and I am involved in the care of a loved one too. If there are any managers reading  this or helpful contacts to help with promotion, lets talk!

My message  would be to anyone about to discover my music is  get ready to feel and to dance  this music is for anyone who is sick of just surviving and ready to fly.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: I love Becky Hill her powerful and soulful vocals and her massive dance hits and collaborations just blow me away. You can tell she is loving every minute.  I think inspiration comes from everywhere, life in general and my experiences or thoughts  and those of others too and their stories.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the track, Be yourself tonight.”?

A: The track is all about helping someone to see they don’t have to pretend and it’s okay to think and feel the way they do as there are others who think and feel the same way.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Someone said  “Imagine Gorgon City and the Freemasons had a baby in the 80’s – that’s MARQelectronica”. I think it Is pretty accurate, modern synth and drums my 80’s sounding vocals and disco strings and the fact  you can dance to most of my tracks.

One word is difficult but maybe “electric” for it;s vibe and it’s influences and use of synths with more organic instruments.

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Be yourself tonight”?

A: I think it was no where near as polished and effective as a track until Simon mixed and mastered it. I produced the song and sent it over hoping he could have some inspiration to lift it further, I felt like I couldn’t get it exactly where it needed to be without some expert input.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: My message is one of be good to each other and also  about  survival over adversity, then it’s also often political trying to make sense of the mess England is in.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: Alive would be MNEK, just think a version of Brandy and Monica’s” The boy is min”e  both of us on vocals and him on production with David Guetta and Kelis with  Becky Hill on backing vocals hehehe!

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Have a back up plan so you can afford to do it and don’t let people hold you back, remember to build contacts and friendships and learn from others in the industry. It’s full of cliques freaks and disappointment but it’s also full of soul satisfying music, gigs, friendships and there’s nothing better.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A:  Be very careful who you trust and keep going, if you believe and keep going you can manifest so much.
