Conversation With Dorian

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: Well, I am from New Jersey and grew up singing in my Church’s children’s choir. Those roots are still in my musical sound. But I also grew up in the 90’s. So, the late 90’s & early 2000’s R&B/Pop vibe is definitely a huge influence on my sound as well. I try to mix all of that inspiration into where I feel my musical taste in today’s climate is.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover Dorian?

A: I plan to push myself and my platform out there continuously by creating more content: from new musical projects, performances (both on stage and virtually), my podcast “Embracing Your Love Marks” , Music Videos, Tik Tok reels…you name it! I really want listeners to really get a sense of my passion in the music, and how I pour love into telling my personal story. My hope is that it inspires someone to dream boldly, love themselves, love others, and grow by embracing their life’s journey.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Currently, I’m going to have to say Beyonce. Just looking at her work ethic is incredibly inspiring. She does everything at the highest level. She’s a true professional. The Renaissance era is still going strong a year later and I love that! That’s how musical eras use to feel. I stay inspired by life. I feel my journey forces me to channel what I experience into my music. Writing is a form of therapy for me. I believe my love for music is going to keep me inspired for a very long time.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the album, The Arrival: Dream World Pt. 2.”?

A:  “The Arrival” is a follow up to my debut album “Dream World”.  It is a 7-track story about me embracing the loving relationship I’m in, celebrating us, and pushing that message of love out to the masses as much as possible. But it is also a personal story about me fighting to continue to dream, accepting the state of other relationships I have, and finding encouragement in those broken-hearted moments. Sonically it’s a universe of different colors, vibes, and emotions. I called it “The Arrival” because I truly felt as if this project helped me gather a sense of inner confidence that I refuse to let waiver. And these songs are a culmination of that energy.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: Inspired!

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “The Arrival: Dream World Pt. 2”?

A: Certainly! Professionally, I was going through changes and losses. In my personal life I was experiencing heartache also—but I put all of that emotion into the music. With songs like “Reign Love” & “Still In Store” you can really feel that.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A:  My message is simply “Love is real. And it can be experienced and expressed in so many ways and different layers. My music reflects that.” My goal is to continue to reach new levels and to be prepared for all that God has for me.

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: Oooooo that’s hard! I’d have to say Michael Jackson. He’s the King!

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Take that leap of faith. Don’t give up! Don’t lose sight of why you wanted to do it in the first place. Don’t expect things to be easy.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: I would just simply tell myself to “Keep going.” Because, I truly wouldn’t change a thing and I love how things are unfolding.
