Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: I have bounced around, starting out in Seattle, then over to Hollywood and finally Lake Michigan, 20 different homes! I’ve always wanted to create music, down deep. It was learning the tools and finding the time and resources that took me some time.
Q: Did you have any formal training, or are you self-taught?
A: Self-taught and still teaching.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences, and why the name ‘Spyder Webb’?
A: Madonna. When I married I became a Webb. My first name was Troy, which means my Brother in Law and I had matching names, “Troy Webb”. Spyder is fitting in many ways, it’ me!
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Twilight’. Is there a story behind it?
A: It’s about that time of day when the light changes and dusk creeps in. It’s calming to me, like mood lighting in a dark room. I had my Mom join me, it’s a duet, she passed from Cancer. My Mom was my closest friend, it’s our duet!
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: My next single “Caught Up” is a little more vocal, a little more soulful, a tad more laid back. Coming soon!
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: My harmonious harmonies and tribal background vocals/sounds, my music is multi-dimensional.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: My music is so fulfilling to me, to create is now a requirement for me, it enables my self expression to exude in ways it couldn’t before. Even more gratifying is when my music moves someone else, when they can benefit from it, when it inspires them or brings them a fond feeling or sparks a memory.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: I start with the basic rhythm/beat that comes to mind, typically along with a few words or a phrase. I then build on that, tell the story from that. Turn the beat up … or down. Start layering more sounds/music and then mesh my writing into the music and the music into my writing. It’s a feeling, I follow the feelings … they lead the way.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: In my music career, I don’t put any emphasis on career. It’s my passion and as long as I can produce, I am fulfilled. The most difficult part was figuring out all of the technical aspects to making a song recording (& music video), and then getting them out there. Still learning and always will be.
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: The release of “Twilight”, it broke the seal!
