With new music in the pipelines, Cyazon gets ready to kickstart a new chapter in his career. We invited him to chat about his plans on future live performances.
Hey Cyazon, how are you doing?
Hi, doing good, thank you!
How do you prepare for a live show?
I have not done any live shows yet other than live stream DJ sets for labels and virtual reality sets in VRChat clubs. To answer your question though, it usually involves putting together a playlist of my original songs and other tracks I want to put in my live show. If it’s online, I will usually put together visuals in a 1 hour video file. The visuals are not custom yet, but eventually, they will.
What do you look for in a track to add it to a live set?
Mainly I look to see if it fits within Dubstep or Mid-Tempo, and I also make sure it is melodic as well. I will also add in a track if it has a cyberpunk/futuristic sound to it too.
What genres do you like to mix in a gig?
Mainly Dubstep and Mid-Tempo for right now. Sometimes Electro House too.
How would you describe the best setting for a live performance?
It’s hard to really describe it since I have not played live yet, but for shows I have been before to just enjoy, I would say a medium-sized club environment with a big visual wall and lights has been the best experience for me. Too big of a club or a festival environment, it doesn’t feel as intimate, at least for right now.
Which new skills or gear would you like to incorporate in to your show?
Eventually further down the road I can see myself using a small keyboard to play melodies.
What do you look forward to convey with your live shows?
I’m definitely looking forward to adding in my own custom visuals for the live shows. I want to show more a story of me as Cyazon, kind of like a movie. So professional cinematic visuals, some animations, and longer playing visuals with actors/actresses in different settings telling the story. It may require a big budget, but I probably will be able to make it happen, even if it is on a smaller scale to start out.
Which venues or cities are on your live performance wish list?
I do not have a particular venue in LA yet, but any big venue for a headline performance would be fun. I think Echostage in Washington DC would be another nice club to perform at too. I do not really have particular cities or too many venues yet as I’m open to anything that comes my way. Touring internationally is something else too, that would be great.
Which artists do you look up to when it comes to performing live?
From going to shows in the past, I definitely love the storytelling that Seven Lions does for his visuals during his performances. I like how my good friend Au5 mixes and transitions between songs during his performances too. Recently, I saw the playback on YouTube of Nero’s live performance at Red Rocks, and I really liked how the performance as a whole put you in an atmosphere and story especially with the live singing aspect too.
What are your hopes and plans for the near future regarding live shows?
My hopes and plans are to be performing live consistently to where I can make good income from it and enjoy it as well.
