Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: Hey, so I was born in New York City, however I’ve lived most of my life in New Jersey. I have loved Hip-hop music since I was a kid, however I didn’t think of making music a career until about a year ago. I’ve always dabbled in writing music as a hobby, but it wasn’t until recently when I started to take it more seriously. Now I try to write every day, and I’m improving exponentially with each song I make.
Q: Did you have any formal training, or are you self-taught?
A: I’m mostly self-taught. In the past, I would have friends give me tips on things that needed to be improved on in my music, however for the most part I have done it myself.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences, and why the name ‘Zenodro’?
A: My first musical influences would definitely be Eminem and Jay-Z. As for my name, Zenodro is actually my last name, backwards: Ordoñez. There’s actually a deeper meaning behind that, but that’ll be explained in future releases.
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘All I Ever Wanted’. Is there a story behind it?
A: ‘All I Ever Wanted’ is a story about unrequited love and heartbreak. But I definitely made it broad enough so that the song covered platonic relationships as well. I think it’s safe to say that We’ve all have had relationships where we feel we’re giving 100 percent, but other people are not putting any effort.
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: I have a bunch of singles lined up for the next few months. I actually have a new single coming out November 9th, called ‘Who Ya Know’ Produced by Epik The Dawn, so I’m really excited for that.
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: With this particular song, ‘All I Ever Wanted’ I want people to concentrate on the melodies, however my future releases will have a balance of rhythm, melody, and lyricism. And if I had to describe my sound, it would definitely be eclectic. It’s hard to pinpoint to one-genre since my influences stem from not only hip-hop but pop, rock, bachata, and even Cumbia.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: I’m excited that people are listening to my music. I do hope that as I grow as an artist more people will tune in, but for now I’m happy that the people that have listened to my song are liking what I’m putting out.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: My creative process has changed over the years. I used to just write and write and then find beats later on in the writing process, however now I will try to find beats that inspire me and then write to the beat. As for as the actual song-writing goes, I start with the melody and rhythm of the music, hoping to get an outline of HOW I want the song to sound like. Once I get a few of those different flows down I then proceed to write the lyrics. With the singles, I don’t have clear formulated idea until I start coming up with some bars, and then I try to make the song revolve around those few bars. With my mixtape that I had released I made sure that the lyrics had to do with the overall theme.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: Being able to balance everything is definitely difficult. I have been learning how to better manage my time and I am now getting the hang of being able to balance everything.
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: I love the fact that over 150 public playlists on Spotify have added my music, but was most excited when I got onto two Spotify Editorial Playlists.
