The vocalist has one of the richest voices we’ve ever heard and his performance on this record is on another level. The chorus is amazing and will get stuck in your head for days. You may find yourself singing it out loud by the next morning. The instrumental is outstanding, the melodies are captivating and the production is polished and brought this song to a whole new level.

ABOUT THE BAND:
Bishopskin are a band like no other. Initially formed in 2020 as a lockdown project by vocalist Tiger Nicholson and guitarist James Donovan (also of HMLTD), they have now expanded into an 8-piece outfit when performing live and have collaborated with a number of familiar names from the London scene, including Alex White (Fat White Family), Seth Evans (Black Midi), and Duc Peterman (HMLTD). This is indeed a long way from their beginnings, when their first single Worship II, followed by debut EP Ye Olde Britland Isle Bishopskin hit spotify and immediately started making waves. The love and commitment of fans who immediately caught onto the fact that this was something truly new propelled Bishopskin into a year during which they played to packed rooms at iconic venues such as the The Windmill, MOTH Club, Paper Dress Vintage, MOT Venue 18, the Columbia, Sebright Arms and others.
Singles I Was Born On An Island and Lean Closer, recently released after signing up with Isolar Records, offer a tantalising taster of the album the band is currently busy recording in the studio, showcasing their unique style and impressive range. Folk and blues influences blend with a brand of powerful mayhem which has its roots in punk and noise, deep, introspective lyrics guide the transition from thrumming, soulful rock into airy, layered ballad. All is brought together by Bishopskin’s own trademark earthy, expressive vocals and virtuoso guitar riffs. It is an experience that goes beyond music – a daring exploration of feeling and voice that seems in places to break the boundaries of performance art.
Their new single Ave Maria (release date: 1st October 2022) is a story from 1934 of Old man England and his vision on the Moor. The song was written to join the canon of mythology and ancient tales surrounding the old Moors of England. It was Inspired by William Blake who was in turn inspired by Christ; sharing his vision of Jerusalem built in England’s hills where the moors, the caves and the islands hold in their soil ancient bones and relics of holy men and women, where apparitions and visions or Maria reside, among these dark satanic mills.
With their unique choice of style and themes, Bishopskin challenge us to engage with a spiritual experience of the world at a time when spirituality is a dangerous theme to approach. When music scenes are dominated by a frantic need to be ‘cool’, the truest kind of transgression may very well lie in openly exploring those themes that may be deemed stereotypically ‘uncool’ – discovering their true depth and relevance in the process. This is the task Bishopskin are setting for themselves and their audience, and it’s a hugely rewarding one. In the age of appearance, to knowingly buck the trend is exactly the kind of subversion good live music is all about.
Following a series of positive reviews and growing attention from the media and industry, the band has received a number of invitations from venues in the UK as well as Europe and a tour is in the works when they come back to playing live, after Tiger’s paternity break in the Summer.
