Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: I hail, born and raised, from Cape Cod Massachusetts. Ever since I was about 6 years old I always knew that being a musician was/is my calling. I would always sing to myself wherever I was, just in my own little world.
Q: And what other artists have you found yourself listening to lately?
A: Lately? I usually listen more to underground and up and coming music/musicians. Currently, I’m really into an artist named Rip My Bottom Lip, as well as Crooked Coast, Troubadour Davis, and the ever so classic “not so underground” group, MGMT.. to name a few.
However, on the side I also tend to continue to listen to bands such as The Grateful Dead and The Doors.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences?
A: If we’re talking first, I’d have to say Miley Cyrus had been a very large inspiration for me in childhood, as well as Christina Aguilera, Avril Lavigne, Hayley Williams, Fergie, Maria Mena, Demi Lovato, Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, and a good amount of Disney Channel artists.
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Best Thing That I Ever Did’. Is there a story behind it?
A: Indeed there is. It’s basically an anthem of inspiration. At first, it was taken from a pretty intense isolated heartbreak, but over time I realized it related to a lot of different, yet similar, romantic endings in my life. The story mapped out is connected to finding that inner strength to release what no longer serves you so you can finally give yourself a chance to become who you were meant to be, as well as falling in love with you. With that being said, it acknowledges how gut wrenchingly painful it is/was to actually cut ties with them. There are definitely strong notes of pain, but underlying empowerment and gratefulness weaved in.
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: It’s a guarantee that I will always create and release material. When that will be is tbd.
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: Key elements in my music would definitely be honesty, rawness, and passion. I absolutely love, live, and breathe my craft and I sure hope it shows and resonates with others. As in describing my sound? All I can say is unique.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: Yes and no. In my earlier stuff I definitely look back and wish I did more or even less, however, I didn’t have the knowledge that I have now. All I know is I’m eternally grateful for music being such a big part of my life, and that I absolutely love it, forever and always. I am honestly very happy with this new single with very little to nitpick.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: It can vary, however, usually I get this feeling in my body that leads me to the production program. All of a sudden I find myself making a backing beat, then before I know it, the music is done. After, I listen through and hum a melody, then before I know it, the lyrics are done. Usually in the past, the process wouldn’t take more than half a day, occasionally having the lyrics and melody just come to me either while I’m driving, in the shower, or even in my dreams. With this recent release, it also kind of came out of nowhere. I went on autopilot and stayed up all night creating the base track, lyrics, and vocals. Before I knew it, I had a new song. However, with this one, I ended up giving it way more love, time, and care than my other past personal tracks. After finishing the first draft, I ended up working on, “Best Thing I Ever Did,” on and off for about 9 months, and boy am I glad I gave it the extra time.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: Hm, there are plenty of things I can put here, but above all, I’d say my deep healing journey that I’ve been on since the pandemic began in 2020. It definitely had/has been one of the most difficult tasks to achieve, but also is an INCREDIBLY rewarding and beautiful process. I wouldn’t have it any other way, and will always be grateful for the time I’ve taken to grow, heal, remove and break any and all toxic patterns internal AND external.
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: Honestly this past year I have grown so much as not just a person, but as a solo musician/artist. I’m actually very proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish and all that I finally see I am capable of. Having written and produced the song itself, as well as planned, filmed, and edited the video (all on my phone)… and going solo in live performances, accumulating a fan base, merchandise, website with my own domain, connections, confidence, etc. I’d say what I have accomplished in the past year is truly truly beautiful and amazing, and I am grateful every single day for the opportunity to do so. All I can hope is by becoming the best version of me, I’m also leading by example, and inspiring others to go after their dreams, and heal their wounds for good.
