Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: so we all met at uni and became mates, a couple of us knew each other even before that point so we’re all good mates. We just write music and perform because of our love of music. It’s not really anything other than that fact. Of course the aim is to gain ‘fame’ if you like, however, I don’t like that description much as fame is a relative concept. We just want to do well enough that we can play big stages, earn a living and keep doing what we love.
Q: And what other artists have you found yourself listening to lately?
A: there’s so much good music out that it’s hard to choose! But just to name a few there’s Circa Waves, Arctic Monkeys to name the obvious and we love the new 1975 tunes. To name some other more obscure artists you might not expect though there’s people like bbno$, Bring Me The Horizon, Polyphia, Standards. There’s so much good music man. It’s so hard to whittle the list down.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences, and why the name ‘Green Wire’?
A: so for Simon it was always the likes of Michael Jackson, Alex Turner and Freddie Mercury. Charlie always cites John Bonham and Ginger Baker as his. For Jack it’s Guthrie Govan and John Frusciante and for Trent there’s too many to even name!
Q: You have just released your new single, ‘Upside Down, Inside Out’. Is there a story behind it?
A: It’s a very classic, relatable story of love pulling you in every direction and even at times making you confused, changing your life and just making you do things you’d never imagine doing normally. Everyone has that person who they fall head over heals for and it’s the first time in their life that they’ve fully fallen in love and that’s where this song came from.
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: As I’m typing these responses we’re in the studio finishing the EP! We haven’t officially set a release date however we can tell you that the EP will be called ‘Last Laugh’ and contains some of what we consider the best songs we’ve written to date.
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: Guitar driven, classic British indie rock sounds. We have other stuff which will come in future but our main focus is just gnarly, catchy tunes that are relatable to a listener. It doesn’t matter whether or not the listener takes the message we intended but music is literally the best therapy there is so personally for me (Simon) I don’t care what’s taken from the song but I’d genuinely love one day for someone to approach us and say that our music got them through some sh*t. That’s the real goal, just to make people happy with music. Bit of a tangent there but hey ho.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: We get fulfilment just from being lucky enough to play our music and have groups of people that genuinely enjoy it and like listening to us and watching us. Of course we always want more because we want to be heard by more and be at the top and be recognised as such but it’s a process and requires hard work, Rome wasn’t built in a day as the old adage goes.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: So typically it’s an idea for a lyric or a riff from myself (simon) that gets taken into the room with the lads and we’ll just sort of jam and make a tune out of it. Then beyond that things change as we play live, with rehearsal and even still at the last moment in the studio things can always change it’s just part of being creative. It’s not really a writing process as such it’s more of a feeling between us all, we’re just a group of mates that gel together.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: I know all the lads would agree with me on this, every single day is as hard as the last. Nothing is easy, there’s always challenges to face and learning to be done because without those challenges you can’t improve. Without a doubt the hardest part aside from this though is something we’ve all experienced in multiple bands and still have experiences of now and that’s just getting people to actually pay to come to shows and what have you. It’s so hard with everyone being skint and not having much to get them to spend their hard earned cash on shows or your music but the people who genuinely love your music enough will do it.
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: This single has been the most successful for all of us. We hit the charts on iTunes and climbed to number 11 in a matter of about 15 hours. It was a bit mental. We have our first academy show coming up in December so that’ll be a pretty big one for us. Aside from that, we got very close to selling out only our second headline show earlier this year and that felt like a pretty special night to us.
