Q: Hey, can you tell us a bit about where you come from, and what made you want to start a career in music?
A: We are located in South Florida, and ever since I first held a guitar I wanted to start writing my own songs and become a professional musician. The band has been through a lot over the years just to still be doing it let alone having success. It’s been quite a journey.
Q: And what other artists have you found yourself listening to lately?
A: I’ve always really been into the older stuff and don’t know many of the current artists and bands. I love Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Hank Williams, the Beatles, all the old guys.
Q: Who were your first and strongest musical influences, and why the name ‘RedrumSociety’?
A: My strongest musical influences are the blues and the old Motown artists, as well as the rockers and folk music. I’m also really influenced by the energy of Parliament Funkadelic. We take a little of this and a little of that from an eclectic group. I think you can hear that in our catalogue. It’s an array of genres fro song to song.
Q: You have just released your new single ‘Coldness of a Woman’. Is there a story behind it?
A: Oh there definitely is with “Coldness of a Woman.” The song is based off of a rough moment in my dating life. Two exes of mine entangled at my apartment, a place where I had previously been threatened by their exes. It was a brutal time to say the least. That’s why I love being a songwriter though. Telling my story in an upbeat songs gives me the power back.
Q: Can we expect a new EP or even an album from you in the near future?
A: Absolutely! We plan on releasing one in 2023!
Q: What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
A: Sonically, our songs really differ between each one. The binding element are the lyrics. I think what defines our music is the juxtaposition of our darker lyrics with happy music.
Q: Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more?
A: Aside from the lack of money, absolutely! It’s a way to connect to others, wherever they may be.
Q: Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song?
A: I write all my songs from my own life experiences. From there some though in my head will end up turning into a melody as it revolves in my mind. At that point I’ll pick up a guitar and just go from there.
Q: What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
A: The most difficult thing I’ve had to face was when the band went on hiatus as a result of my drug and alcohol abuse. I thought it was permanently done at the time. Having so much hope when I first started the band as a kid, to see it all gone because I lost control was heartbreaking.
Q: On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
A: When we got our Billboard for “All Night”! We hit no. 22 on the Rock Charts. I thought I’d have to hire security because I was a celebrity but not a single person has ever recognized me yet.
