Masquerade just landed on our radar with a new three-track EP called “Darkest Hours”, and it comes from a very real place. The project was written during a harsh winter moment, with power cuts and long hours in the dark, and that situation quietly shapes everything here. It doesn’t try to sound big. It stays close, almost like a conversation.
The EP opens with the title track “Darkest Hours”. It’s direct from the start. The vocals are raw. No heavy effects, no hiding. Just a voice sitting in front of simple and clean instrumentation. There’s something honest in how it’s delivered, like the artist is not trying to fix anything, just say it as it is. The lyrics stick. They’re personal, but not confusing and the melody carries them in a way that’s easy to hold onto.
“Temptation” comes next and shifts the mood a bit without breaking the flow. It’s smoother and easier to sit with. The instrumentation is richer here and the vocal delivery is more relaxed but still personal. There’s a sense of reflection in the writing, especially around struggle and trying to move forward. It doesn’t push too hard. It just lets the idea sit there.
The last track, “I’m Lonely” keeps the same direction but adds more weight. There’s more space in the sound, more atmosphere around the voice. The emotion comes through a bit stronger, not louder, just clearer. It’s probably the most open moment on the EP. The production across all three tracks stays simple but controlled and that choice works.
What stands out across the EP is the vocal tone. It’s natural and steady. There’s no need to decorate it too much. The lyrics are honest and focused on real struggles, both personal and wider, and that connects back to the idea behind the EP. Trying to find some kind of strength while things are not going well. We think “Darkest Hours” is a strong and honest EP with clear intention and Masquerade is an artist worth keeping an eye on.
