DownTown Mystic just dropped a new EP called “On E Street (Remix)”, and it’s a bit of a time trip, but not in a forced or fake way. These tracks actually come from the early 80s, around 1983 and 1984, and you can really hear that old-school rock feeling all the way through. But instead of leaving them untouched, he went back and remixed them, giving them a cleaner and fuller sound without losing that original energy. That’s something we don’t always get with remixes, but here it works.
The first track, “Way To Know” kicks things off with a great vibes. It’s got a strong rhythm, bright guitars, and a bassline that really sticks in your head after a few listens. The vocals are catchy, especially in the chorus, which feels made for repeat plays. It’s one of those songs that is simple but still very effective. The remix gives it a bit more space and punch, but it still feels like it belongs to that classic rock era.
Then we get “And You Know Why”, which slows things down a little and leans more into emotion. The vocals carry most of the track here and they do a great job. There’s a personal story behind this one too, as it was written during a moment when the artist almost gave up on music. You can kind of feel that honesty in the song. The instrumentation is simple, not too busy, and that actually helps the vocals stand out more. It’s a strong choice for a remix, and it comes out really clean.
“Hard Enough” brings the energy back again. It has a good groove, nice melodies, and a chorus that sticks. The guitars sound great here, and the whole track just feels alive. It’s not trying too hard, just solid rock done right. The remix adds a bit more clarity to everything, which helps the instruments shine without overdoing it.
One interesting part of the EP is “Sometimes Wrong (1985)”. This one wasn’t remixed, just remastered. And honestly, it might be the standout. There’s something raw and real about it, from the drums to the vocals. It’s more direct, maybe even more honest. Sometimes less change is the better choice, and this track proves that. The EP wraps up with TV mix versions of “And You Know Why” and “Way To Know”. They don’t change things too much, but they’re nice extras if you already liked those tracks.
Overall, this EP is like a mix of past and present done in a great way. It doesn’t try to modernize everything too much and that’s probably why it works. The vintage sound is still there, but the quality is better, clearer, stronger. We really enjoyed this one. It’s got heart, good songwriting, and that classic rock spirit that’s hard to fake. It’s honest and that matters more than anything.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Rock’n’Roll spoken here…
The sound of DownTown Mystic is “vintage yet modern”, continuing in the legacy of rockers like Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. The music is rooted in all the great traditions of American Rock‘n’Roll, blending story telling songs with vintage guitars and analog recording into a unique style that owes nods to Buffalo Springfield, The Beatles, CCR, Rockpile and The Rolling Stones but somehow manages to sound as contemporary as anything currently available.
“I grew up listening to all these great records…”
