Album: Pascal Dennis – Nights at the Menelon

Some albums don’t try to reinvent anything. They just settle into their own space and stay there. “Nights at the Menelon” from Pascal Dennis works in that quieter lane, and honestly, it suits him.

The record opens with “No Matter What You Do”, which immediately sets a warm tone. Easy rhythm. Bright energy. It’s the kind of start that doesn’t rush but still keeps things moving. Dennis has always carried that classic touch in his songwriting and it shows again here.

Then comes “Unquiet Lullaby” one of the clear standouts. The melodies are clean and memorable, and there’s something steady about the arrangement that makes it stick. Not flashy. Just well built. “Jacaranda Trees in Bloom” follows with a softer step. It’s gentle, pretty, and carried by vocals that actually sell the emotion instead of overplaying it.

“Walking by Myself” adds more weight. The instrumentation gets richer here, fuller in the background, while the lyrics land with more intention. It’s one of those tracks where the craft becomes more obvious. And honestly, “I Tell Lies to Tell the Truth” might have the sharpest songwriting on the record. Even the title pulls you in before the first note hits. His delivery there is especially confident. “Remember Me to Miss Vivienne” and “Twilight Tears on Brass Monkey Bay” keep the same level of care. Nothing drops off. The consistency is noticeable.

By the time the closing track, “Once Upon a Time in Detroit City” arrives, the album circles back emotionally. It’s the kind of closer that makes you pause and actually listen to the lyrics instead of letting the song pass by. Quiet but effective.

Pascal Dennis isn’t new to our blog, and this album reinforces why his work keeps returning to the radar. The melodies remain strong. The arrangements stay tasteful. His voice still carries that rich, classic tone that fits the material naturally. We kept coming back to this one. Not because it demands attention, but because it earns it over time.
