Beth Zero’s new four-track EP “Inheritor” is a short and dark trip that sticks with you. From the opening creak of “All Fall Down”, you’re pulled into a world of sparse beats, warm guitar washes and haunting melodies. The production is minimal but careful and every sound feels chosen and the atmosphere is what carries each song.
“Clocks” deepens that mood with echoed vocals and a chilly electronic pulse that makes the track feel both intimate and distant. “Sunk Costs” brings a little more grit, it’s emotional singing laid over interesting instrumentation that gives the song a raw and distinctive edge. The EP closes with “Down with the Ship,” a quieter and reflective piece that leaves space for the melodies to linger and makes you want to press play again.
Mark Madsen’s voice is rich and confident and the songwriting leans into bleak, tech-noir imagery without ever sounding showy. The sonic palette is tight, it’s minimal, polished and creative and the melodies are built to haunt. This isn’t radio pop, it’s mood music for late nights and slow drives. We enjoyed it a lot and kept coming back for more.
