Kodak Kid is here with a fresh new single titled “Junk”, and it’s the kind of track that feels both fun and deeply personal at the same time. The Lancaster-based artist, also known as Luke Benjamin, has a way of blending sounds that don’t usually sit together and this song proves it. With influences from hip-hop, jazz and dream pop, the track creates a unique and colorful groove that’s easy to get lost in.
What really makes this song shine is the collaboration. Boo Kickz delivers standout vocals that bring extra life to the track and the smooth basslines give the song its catchy groove. The production by Dilip Harris is crisp and perfectly balances the dreamy melodies and upbeat rhythms.
Even though the song has danceable energy and summery vibes, the lyrics carry a more emotional core. Kodak Kid sings about resilience, heartbreak and finding a way to keep moving when life feels heavy. That mix of melancholy and light makes the track relatable while still keeping it playful. This single shows why Kodak Kid is becoming one to watch. His sound doesn’t fit into one box, it’s layered, creative and always surprising.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Kodak Kid is the alias of Luke Benjamin, a London raised, Lancaster based singer songwriter whose genre melding sounds and baritone voice has drawn comparisons to Damon Albarn and King Krule amongst others. His output is self described “escapist music for alienated souls”.
After fronting various bands including Dubchimp and Death Lash, Luke ventured out on his own in 2019 dubbing himself Kodak Kid. Drawing from influences as disparate as No Wave, Post Punk, Jazz, Hip Hop, Dub and Dream Pop, Benjamin started to create a unique multicoloured yet melancholy musical soundscape.
In 2019 Kodak Kid released a Bandcamp only release Free E.P on Discreet Cartels Records which was written from scratch and recorded in 3 weeks. Dissatisfied with the demo-like sound of the EP, Luke decided not to release it on streaming. He followed with the single release “Wake” in early 2021.
Kodak Kid followed this with the singles “Everyone Has Their Summer” and “Goodbye” in 2022 followed by a UK tour.
In 2025 Luke returns with the release “Junk”. On this comeback single, Kodak Kid spars with his heartache. Blending golden age hip-hop, Latin, and jazz, “Junk” is the feeling of being at a NY block party for melancholic indie kids. Featuring Seye Adelekan’s (Gorillaz) bass grooves & Dilip Harris’ (King Krule) unconventional production, Kodak creates an exuberantly summery and stoned groove for the weary. If your world has been levelled, this is your comforting indie banger of the summer.
