Mount St. Helen returns with his new single, “Helpless” and it’s a track that feels both heavy and uplifting at the same time. The Oxford-based project, led by Aris Sabetai, has built a sound that blends raw alternative rock energy with atmospheric shoegaze textures and this song shows just how powerful that mix can be.
The first thing that stands out is his deep and haunting voice. It carries a weight that matches the themes of the song, while the instrumentation builds around him with shifting layers of guitars and soaring production. The chorus is a real highlight, exploding with energy and emotion, making it a moment alternative rock fans will hold onto instantly.
The song asks big questions about the state of the world and how higher powers might view the chaos we create. But rather than staying in the dark, the music leans into moments of brightness and release, reminding us that even in times of uncertainty, there is hope. The final section with its almost choral lift, is a great way to close the track.
This is an honest, polished and powerful song that proves Mount St. Helen has something special. The combination of emotion and strong production makes “Helpless” a song worth repeating. We feel this is one of those tracks that rock fans will not only enjoy but truly connect with and we’re excited to see where he goes next.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Mount St. Helen is the alias of Oxford-based multi-instrumentalist Aris Sabetai. Starting the project in lockdown, the music blends the love of 90s guitar music with ethereal string arrangements and pop sensibilities – all written, self-produced and recorded in his dorm room at university. Inspiration comes from all sorts of places including indie cinema, animation and poetry through to European culture, religion and a fear of flying. Although frequently focusing on themes of nostalgia, faithlessness and loser-dom, the music of Mount St. Helen is a celebration of difference, optimism and hope. In the live setting Sabetai is joined by Francesco Reni (guitar), Joe Smith (bass) and Ryan Taylor-Costin (drums).
In March 2024 Mount St. Helen was endorsed by All Things Considered Management (Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, The Smile) to record a portfolio of material for prospective record labels. The project has currently caught the attention of Parlophone Records and 3000 Years Publishing.
