Interview With TWO TONNE MACHETE

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?

A: My first instrument is the piano which I played this from the age of 5 picking up the guitar at the age of 10. Music was always in the house as a child with my dad playing everything from folk to rock and roll. I still listen to wide range of music now.

Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “TWO TONNE MACHETE”?

A: We want to play some live shows across Europe next year. Advice? Get some ear plugs as we are LOUD.

Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?

A: Inspiration comes from anywhere at any time- particularly in the middle of the night- I have a note book and little digital recorder next to my bed in case I wake up with an idea. Current new songs are focussing on the deep anger and sadness at the injustices of the world right now. I feel this deeply. We all do as a band.

Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “HOME.”?

A: “HOME” channels grief — personal and political — with quiet/loud dynamics, a chugging bass hook, and a screaming guitar solo. It’s about loss, longing, and the brutality of never going home. Inspired by the pain of displaced people, especially in Palestine. The song is about grief and how it is hard to find a space away from that sadness. It is also about the current masses of persecuted people who have had grief inflicted on them and had their home, land and lives torn apart by lies and genocidal actions of those in power. And, how they are never going to be able to go home again.

Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?

A: POWER

Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “HOME”?

A: it was a new experience as it was the first single we had recorded since becoming a four piece but this made the experience better not more challenging. The challenge was the crap coffee Mark bought.

Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?

A: We would love to play some bigger outdoor festivals next year and maybe a little tour. We also hope to record an album. mainly just to keep making music together- it’s a privilege. The message of our music?- #translivesmatter #freepalestine

Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)

A: For me it would have to be Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?

A: Women support each other and don’t bend to the will of a dude.

Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?

A: Steam your vocals! Eat your greens! Don’t trash your guitar in a rage!
