With Stones in His Pockets is back with “Devour”, a three-track EP that blends haunting melodies, thoughtful lyrics and raw emotion. Described as gothic folk, the EP takes listeners on a slow, moody journey that’s both reflective and refreshingly unique.
The opening track, “A Priest and a Murderer” sets the tone without saying a word, literally. It’s an instrumental piece, but one that speaks volumes. The guitar work is fantastic, weaving together a simple but powerful rhythm that makes you want to hit replay right after it ends. It’s professional, clean and just catchy enough to draw you into the world With Stones is creating.
Next up is “The Hours” a track that shifts the energy into something darker and more emotional. The vocals here are soft but full of meaning and they pair beautifully with the haunting instrumental in the background. The whole song moves slowly, giving space to the lyrics and the emotions behind them. It’s one of those tracks you’ll want to sit with for a while, perfect for late-night listening or moments when you need to feel something deeper.
The EP ends on a high note with “What Will It Take to Let Go?”, a track that captures the overall message of the project. It’s about letting go of the noise in our heads and stepping into the present moment. The lyrics are sharp and memorable and the vocals pull you in close, almost like the artist is talking directly to you. The melodies are calm but catchy and they’ll stick with you long after the song ends.
Lyrically, the EP is inspired by the teachings of Eckhart Tolle, focusing on themes of presence, surrender and the struggle of living inside a restless mind. But even if you’re not familiar with those ideas, the emotion in the music speaks for itself. There’s a raw honesty here that’s hard to ignore.
We really enjoyed this EP. It’s simple but deep in feeling and it doesn’t try to do too much. Every track feels thoughtful and real. “What Will It Take to Let Go?” was our favorite, it made us stop what we were doing and just listen. There’s something special about With Stones in His Pockets. His music feels personal and grounded and we’re excited to see where his sound goes next. If you like folk music with emotion and a little edge, “Devour” is worth your time.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:

With Stones in His Pockets is a singer-songwriter from South London. He writes formally experimental gothic music that dwells at the murky boundary between folk and post-rock; pessimistic but weirdly uplifting songs about broken-hearted people on the fringes of society.
Through his solo performance, With Stones channels the impact of a full rock band. In each sparse, tangled song is an orchestral epic trying to get out. On stage, he strains every sinew to bring the crowd into his dynamic, idiosyncratic musical world, where psych rock, folk, classical and jazz jostle for space, and catharsis is thin on the ground.
