Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how your childhood impacted your musical direction?
A: I am a German-born singer-songwriter now residing in the UK with my three children, I have a rich musical heritage, being the daughter of musicians. Captivated by the allure of the stage since my teens, as I was a dancer since I was 5 years old and I absolutely loved it and enjoyed being on stage,i was profoundly inspired by the girl group Blackpink in 2020, prompting me to pen my own melodies. Collaborating with my brother, producer Sebastian Rupio, I began to craft my own songs.
Q: How are you planning on growing your fan base and sharing your music with the world? What message do you have for anyone who is about to discover “Mari Clare”?
A: 2025 , I am looking forward to releasing and writing more songs. I have many ideas and now it’s time to share all of them.
I also want to grow a little fanbase hopefully this year which I would love to have. And I am also looking into open mics this year in my area to get some live sessions in, some live videos to be able to play some festivals very soon.
My message would be , be ready and open for some fun, great and exciting music from me. As of I am still trying to find my “style” but I think I have found it already in my latest release “nothing like You.” Which is very different from my other two releases but I think sometimes you have to be different to stand out.
Q: Who is the most inspiring artist for you right now? And where do you find inspiration for making music?
A: my most inspiring artist right now is Chappell roan, she is absolutely amazing. She speaks up , which not many celebrities do and speaks about her mental health. I am a big fan of hers. And her style in music is just so fun and enjoyable to listen to. I write all my own songtext , I write about deep feelings like depression, anxiety and loneliness. But I also now write about healing and embracing who you truly are. Sometimes when I walk or drive around to bring my kids to football, suddenly a melody comes into my mind and I immediately need to record it. And thats basically how sometimes a song comes out of it.
Q: Can you tell us about the story or message behind the song, “Nothing Like You.”?
A: “Nothing Like You” is a heartfelt exploration of self-discovery and renewal. Mari Clare takes listeners on a journey of letting go, shedding what no longer fits, and reconnecting with the essence of who you truly are. It’s a powerful ode to finding your way back home—to yourself.
Q: How would you describe your sound in one word for potential listeners?
A: freedom
Q: Did you face any challenges while writing or recording “Nothing Like You”?
A: to be honest , nothing like you was one of the “easist” one to write and record. My voice was very good that day which makes the recording easier than on some days when my voice isn’t great. My brother knew exactly what he wanted and than we were done in 5 hours and we just knew that’s the song.
Q: What is the message of your music? And what are your goals as an artist?
A: the message of my music is , to be yourself and always believe in yourself and never ever give up hope. My goals are to be on stage and sing my own songs , perform it on festivals and share my story with my songs with many people and also to have fun.
Q: Who is your dream artist to collaborate with? (dead or alive)
A: my dream artist to collab with are Chappell roan , lady gags and jennie from Blackpink.
Q: What is your advice for people interested in pursuing music as a career or for those trying to enter the industry?
A: my advice would be , always believe in yourself because there will be people who don’t like your voice , your sound your quality, your look or whatever they can think of. But if you believe in your music and you love it , that’s all it takes. Don’t let anybody hold you away from your passion.
Q: If you could go back in time and give a younger you some words of wisdom, what would they be?
A: I would tell my younger self , to trust the process and believe in yourself. If it’s meant to be it will be.
