Lisa Michelle Anderson’s new single, “Devil on My Back” is a haunting yet catchy song that pulls you in from the very first note. Blending Americana, folk, and rock, she creates a sound that feels both raw and refined, a perfect match for the song’s powerful message.

The lyrics tell a compelling story of fighting personal demons, when you want to break free from bad habits but always being pulled back. The rhythm is steady and infectious, giving the song a natural flow that keeps you engaged. The production and mixing are excellent making sure every element comes together smoothly. The music video, featuring Lisa singing and playing guitar, adds to the experience, allowing her raw talent to take center stage. She doesn’t need flashy effects, her performance alone is enough to captivate.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Lisa Michelle Anderson’s music is a masterful blend of Americana, folk, and rock, stitched together with the rich, varied experiences of a life lived far beyond her hometown roots in Southeast Kansas. Raised on the country and bluegrass melodies of Dolly Parton, Lisa’s early years were a study in contrast—a small-town girl with a global perspective, thanks to formative years spent in Australia, Iran, and Greece. These diverse cultural experiences soaked into her soul, laying the groundwork for a sound that is as eclectic as it is deeply personal.

Recognition has followed her at every step. From being voted Best Singer-Songwriter by the Minnesota Music Academy to opening for legends like Warren Zevon and The Jayhawks, Lisa’s career is marked by milestones that speak to her talent and tenacity. Her recent singles, including “Joy Callin’,” have garnered critical acclaim –– (melodies that are “simply breathtaking” (Indie Press); “the most gorgeous lead vocals” (Vents Magazine); “one of the catchiest and most beautiful voices we’ve ever heard” (Bored City). Her upcoming full-length LP, Get to Somewhere delves deeper in the storytelling that has become her hallmark. Get to Somewhere drops on April 4, 2025.

With a 2025 international tour on the horizon, Lisa is committed to pushing her creative boundaries, staying true to her sound, and continuing to connect with audiences near and far.

Lisa’s journey into music was as multi-faceted as her upbringing. At the age of 16, while living in Australia, she picked up a guitar for the first time, inspired by the haunting lyrics of Joni Mitchell and raw emotion of Neil Young. What began as a simple pastime quickly became an all-consuming love affair.

This passion led her to the heart of the Americana music scene—Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri—where at just 18 she performed alongside some of the best in the business. It was there, amidst the seasoned studio musicians and bluegrass bands, that Lisa’s unique blend of folk, country, and rock began to take shape.

San Diego called next, where Lisa cut her teeth in a rough-and-tumble biker bar, playing with a country band that was as wild as the venue’s patrons. It was a trial by fire that forged her resilience and deepened her connection with audiences, teaching her that music wasn’t just about notes and lyrics—it was about the stories you tell and the people who listen.

Lisa’s live shows are an experience, whether solo or with her band. Her folk rock style is punctuated with surprise bursts of edginess, and comes alive with unforgettable choruses elevated by a more recent emphasis on storytelling. The powerful band at her back includes keyboardist Simon Guthrie (Arlo’s youngest), acclaimed drummer and vocalist G. Winnard—plus drop ins from her son, Aidan Kai Anderson, or music icons like Johnny Irion (Arlo Guthrie, Robert DeLeo).

Her songs are journeys—whether to the heartlands of America, the beaches of Australia, or a quiet village in Greece. They’re rich with the geography of her life, painted in lyrics that resonate with the listener’s own experiences and emotions. On stage, she is a natural, engaging the crowd with tales that are as captivating as her songs. She guides her audience through stories of love, loss, and everything in between, all with a warmth and honesty that makes you feel like you’ve known her forever.

Lisa’s sound has been described as “heartfelt Americana, smooth vocal phrasing, and rugged charm,” but there’s more to it than that. Imagine “fresh linen and well-worn denim occasionally splashed with whiskey, beer, and hot sauce”—a perfect metaphor for her music’s ability to be both comforting and bold, traditional and rebellious. It’s a sound that’s hard to pin down because it’s so authentically hers, shaped by a lifetime of listening to everything from Janis Joplin to Santana, Bob Dylan to Deep Purple.

Today, Lisa makes her home in the Massachusetts Berkshires, a place rich in inspiration.

When she’s not making music, Lisa channels her love into her family and her creativity into designing sterling silver jewelry, another art form that mirrors the precision and passion she brings to her music. Travel remains a vital part of her life, feeding her soul and providing endless inspiration for new songs.

In a world that often demands conformity, Lisa stands out, not just for her talent, but for her authenticity. Her music is a reflection of a life lived fully, with all its twists and turns, highs and lows. It’s music that doesn’t just tell a story—it invites you to live it with her.
